my god...set it on a fire.

You're right, it's not very good.

reply

It's a classic, you just have a terrible taste in movies.

reply

Agreed! The two posters above you are idiots (probably teens or younger). Easily one of the best slashers from the early 80s. Perhaps even the best.

Well, most people are idiots with bad taste...so there!

I would put it up there with one of the better slasher flicks of the '80's. Something different than the let's-kill-all-the-horny-kids-having-sex films, though out of 80's necessity there is a scene of that in there.

It was boring. And the douchebag should have been the killer, not the good guy.

reply

The good guy? He was the killer! Killers are not good guys! ;)

Classic? LOL.

I'm 17 and I fúcking love classic 80's horror movies much like this one!

I had the exact same reaction to your post.

Did you get the attention you were looking for?

Its about on par with The Burning. Im watching it for the first time right now and im not impressed. After watching this the burning and Sleepaway Camp for the first time recently I feel that Sleepaway Camp is better than either.

Sleepaway Camp most of the acting is very poor because they are early 80s child actors but the film moves along at a swifter pace and it feels like the kid actors are having fun with making a movie and it transfers to the screen, add to that the campy acting from the adults, its like it know exactly what it is and doesnt try to be anything else.

Dont get butthurt if Valentine is your fave. I could be wrong.

IMHO the reason why F13, Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween are remembered strongly in comparison, its because they are the better films, tension, final act, have a better concept, kills and lead up to kills, soundtrack, and/or have a better bogie man, protagonist is better.

In The Burning the final girl is a boy, in Valentine none of the characters I really root for apart from the secondary characters but only a couple endears themselves. The movie is supposed to be a nice 1 hour 30 mins. I dont know what cut I watched but it feels like ive been sat here hours watching this dumb guy stare at this dumb girl while she "decides" which guy to choose while I wait for another kill which are few and far between, although the kills are good when they do happen.

The main "love triangle" characters are annoying and bring zero fun to the film. Its a downer watching the guy stare at the girl to steal her back. He barely interacts with his old friends and spends the whole movie staring and trying to cockblock the blond guy.

The music is barely noticeable, both Halloween and Friday had great music which really brought up the tension and they were edited around the music to give good build ups to the kills and creepy atmosphere. The build up to kills is non-existent, Mine Man just shows up out of the blue, does his thing then its goodbye for another 20 mins.

The finale is not that good, where they are trapped in a mine, running around the mine doesn't leave for much scope or cinematography and tension is not high until the killer meets the final two. Then it's a slow fight on a mine cart a little fight then we get the reveal and its flashback.

The killer cuts his own arm of when stuck under the rubble and prances off spouting Shakespearian crazy person theatre acting histrionics. Are we to believe that same bland guy from earlier is this nutjob?

Better than the remake.

Slasher masterpiece. Rightfully revered by all slasher fans.
