This is the best Mad Max movie

I watched Fury Road twice already, very good movie. But it just can´t beat Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior. In fact, if Fury Road has 8.7/10, Mad Max 2 should have a higher score. I just re-watched MM2 again, and it´s a much better movie in every aspect. The "strangeness" is bigger and better. I love Tom Hardy, but Max is Mel.

One of the things I really like about Road Warrior is how well the score is integrated. Like the scene where Max and the Gyrocaptain are viewing the rape with the telescope. Although there's some light sound effects that scene is completely driven by the score. Sadly, much as I love Fury Road, it never uses the score like that.

For me Mad Max 2 is the definitive vision of Max and the world he inhabits. From the original trilogy it's head and shoulders above the others which to be honest aren't all that great really. Fury Road was good and whilst the action was eye popping stuff it did get a bit repetitive after a while. My main problem with Fury Road though was Tom Hardy. He is a decent enough support actor but just doesn't have enough screen presence to play the lead man and certainly not big enough to fill Mel's boots that's for sure.

Without doubt The Road Warrior is the best. It's a timeless classic and has always held a place in my top 10 all time movies. It's one of the few movies along with Taxi Driver that I love to dig out and watch every once in a while. It really is a masterpiece and deserves to hold a high spot in the top 250 imo.

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd.

I watched Fury Road with some friend's friends, and when I mentioned I had only seen the first Mad Max, he had a look in his eye that he wanted to stab me.

I'm with OP.

Loved Fury Road to pieces. Excellent film. Can't top Road Warrior though, just didn't have the same gravitas.

Fury road was a bit to over choreographed, I was just waiting for trapeze artists to pop up while juggling Molotov cocktails, if they cut all that crap and used real practical fighting it would not have taken me out the film as much.
