Raiders of the Lost Ark is clearly the most remembered of the film nominated that year.

However, the experts were expecting the Oscar to go to Reds or On Golden Pond this year. Had Chariots of Fire not won, one of those two films would likely have won.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was my favorite of the nominated films that year. However, I am a big fan of Chariots of Fire and happy it beat Reds and On Golden Pond.

No just...no. I think Reds should have won that year. Seriously, am i the only one?? That was epic. My favorute Redford film.

Ooops..I know that lol. I always get confused with those 2 actors. Both legends btw.

Reds was pretty incredible. With the conservative movement coming in that decade, I didn't think it would win.

At work, I remember the manager I reported to saying that he wouldn't see it and put money in Warren Beatty's pocket!

"Raiders of the lost Ark" was childish nonsense, not a thinking persons film.

A movie doesn't have to be a "thinking persons film" to be a cinematic masterpiece.

Sir we must then agree to disagree.

Yeah, it kinda does, Mo (and how are Larry and Curly?). Quick: name a work of genius that was intended for clods.

Raiders is a thoroughly enjoyable film, loads of fun & endlessly rewatchable. But it's not a cinematic masterpiece & is nowhere near the level of Chariots of Fire, Reds, or Ragtime. It's a spirited, high-budget update of 1940s adventure serials & films, which tended to be B-pictures.
