Nancy Allen's acting

Is it just me or also an another person finds her performance absolutely terrible? I mean she sounds naive and stupid like a little girl. It pretty much ruins the movie, because she doesn't fit in there at all.

Think she should have played it straight, like in Robocop.

Even if she playing the child-like character deliberately it's doesn't make it a good performance. I know the type the women she playing: naive, sweet talking with a baby voice that love the attention of men around her but she overplay it. The scene that bother me the most was near the end when Burke convinces her to follow him to isolated places like the subway and the sea, and until the last moment she does not realize that she is in danger. Even animals feel threatened in such situations but not our Sally. For god sake, even when he throwing the tape to the sea she don't understand that it's not the reporter.

Despite everything, she didn't ruin the movie for me and didn't bother me too much. However, the film could have improved with more talent actress and better female character.

She was clearly instructed (or given permission) to play an Marilyn-esque ditz. She did so well. I had no issues with her character or performance.

It didn’t bother me at all. I think it was supposed to add to her character how she’s naive and easily talked into things. She got tricked by her photographer partner, and then she got led into a very secluded area by John Lithgow’s character. I also found it endearing like another poster commented and I felt it more when the tragedy occurred in the end.
