Funniest bit?

Every time I watch this movie I spend most of the time with a big grin on my face, but the bit that makes me laugh out loud each time is the one where Andrew and Kate pull into a garage fore-court and the attendant comes over, says 'Good morning Miss' to Kate and then squirts her in the face with soapy water because the windscreen is missing. So, so silly, but oh so funny!

ALL the interactions between Steyn and the Antichrist.......

.......which by way of clarification is a British LAND ROVER (Series 2a, I think) not an American JEEP!!!

There ARE two JEEPs in it....and they are driven by the rebels. One is a 1940s vintage wartime model, and the other is a 1960s CJ (Civilian Jeep).

End of rant.

Thank you.

The Opener of the Way is waiting....

I find many of the things already mentioned very funny also. But, in addition I enjoyed the deaf tailor at the store that gets robbed by the gangsters. He just keeps sewing the whole time, and when his thread is shut off his sewing machine, he just gets another one and keeps going.

There's so many funny short and long gags in this movie, from the one you mentioned to the one with the car having no handbrake, to the classroom scene with the shoe in the waste basket, the car going up the three, the way Kate thought Stain is a creep because of all that stuff he was doing at night due to the animals she could never see, etc. When he went to see her at the end and started laughing when she realised what a sweet guy he is despite all the clumsiness, it's a wonderful feeling.

There's lots of little things like when they bump heads when trying to hear each other in the car, the way the frames of the film speed up for a split second during the comical moments, and the longer high-speed bits, and the way it is all played so straight. It's from a movie-making era we don't have anymore, like the "Police Squad!" TV series. I think a big part of it for me is how straight everyone plays it. I don't think the actors knew how good that would come off later as they did all that.

Unfortunately there is a cloud of racism aimed at the film from some angles with how it depicts the bush people, which will only become stronger as the world becomes more politically correct.

I didn't feel like going through the whole topic, but a few weeks ago I watched this for the first time in years and I loled at the scene where Andrew is first introduced in the movie and he keeps getting out of the car while it's moving to open a gate and then rushing back to the car while it's moving because the breaks on the car don't work. Then putting a rock in front of the tire only to have the rock be too small and the car goes forward and he frantically gets back into it. That whole bit had me loling.
