What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

The basic premise of the movies is that Blake and his comrades are murdered and come back on the centenary of the town to seek revenge on six of the townspeople to make amends for the same number of sailors (Blake and his five men) killed 100 years ago.

Well and good.

However, it still begs the question as follows:

What would a bunch of dead guys want, need, or in fact do with Father Malone's gold once they had it?

Please post with any interesting thoughts.

Cheers for now.

The pirates were Jewish.

They wanted to melt it down and make it into a whole bunch of Trump buttons. They were members of the Dead Alt Right.

Also, if the conspirators stole the gold to spend it on Antonio Bay (and they did) how did it become a huge cross and get behind the church´s wall (again, the very church they wanted to spend it on)?

That was always my question. I assumed Malone took it and hid it. Don't you think the original conspirators would have come after him to get it back?

It was a symbolic victory. The original Father Malone swore if he could make amends and return the gold that was left after what they used to build the town he would. The current Father Malone was making good on his vow and showing penance.
