Do you think Ty (Chevy Chase) was in Vietnam?

Yes Ty was born into wealth, but there are a few hints that he was in Nam.

-His home is decorated all Asian
-He hints to Lacey that he was, but then makes a joke about it, rather than talk about it.
-He doesn't have that elitest snob attitude that the other members do. He's slightly 'off,' for lack of a better term--as if he's seen s*** that other snobs would never see.
-When he chats with Carl, Carl ends with "Brothers for life." This is often reserved for fellow Vietnam vets--who Carl is definetly part of.

Maybe he was one of those rich guys, who resisted any special treatment or elitism and served in Nam? Maybe his father (who didn't respect Judge Smails) made Ty man up when drafted?

Your thoughts?

It's directly stated in the movie that he has traveled to Vietnam. He wasn't there to serve though.

Ty and Chevy seem the type to run to Canada instead of fight.

Carl said, "Buddies for life," not brothers. Ty claimed he was a homosexual to keep from going to 'Nam.

WHY would it be important??

reply

I don't think so. He really didn't care what anyone thought of him so I got the impression he would just tell them whatever he felt like saying.

It's hard for me to imagine someonw like Carl would be a Vietnam Vet.
