5.1 what?

How come this only rated 5.1?

This a wonderful film. Good story, very well written, great cinematography and most important of all: it was logical compared to some many trashy average hollywood flicks at the beginning of 80's. Leo McKern delivered a terrific performance as well.

There are people who pride themselves on their cynicism, and will demean anything beautiful or sweet. They think that somehow they are being cool if they sneer.

And look at some of the complaints people make: why did their hair look good? why do they talk like little kids? These people didn't pay attention (nor did they give it much thought) or they would know the answers.

Of course, their are always some people who will not like a movie. Good people will dislike good movies. But it isn't just the people who legitimately don't like The Blue Lagoon who mark it down; it's them PLUS the people who think that they are making some kind of point.

It is rated a 5.1 because many claim to find everything about it completely insipid, boring, worthless and mediocre. Many also consider the acting extremely terrible. Even though they utterly missed the entire point of the film and didn't percieve it as the majestic masterpiece that it actually is, they decide to give it 1s and such to make themselves feel more professional for going along with most all the other major critics and undermining a film that is considered by it's fans both a milestone in cinema and a work of art.

Anyway, don't pay attention to the overall rating, really. There are a lot of people who use IMDb that do not vote on films and rather just use the message boards and or review them without a */10 star vote. There's also tons of people who don't use IMDb that enjoy this film greatly, I would know, and it gets enough love to be considered well recieved among the general public.

Death is a once in a lifetime experience.

Ridiculous isn't it?? This is easily an 8/10 film.

I remember watching this film when it came out, or at least when it appeared on TV a few years later. I found it a bit naff and decidedly wooden. Perhaps also, at that time, people remembered the 1949 British film which was popular on TV and much liked. I remember thinking the Jean Simmons and Donald Houston version much superior.
