Train scene with Mercy Swan and the rich kids? Opinions

What was the story there?

Simply seeing how the other half lives? I have a few other ideas, What is your take?

The end.

What I don't understand, is why the rich kids bypassed a bunch of empty seats, to sit right across from Swan and Mercy?

I know if I was getting on a subway looking like that, I'd be taking the first seat I see, and not walking though the gang members, and sitting across from them.

They were laughing and having too much of a good time to notice Swan and Mercy until they sat down and settled in and realized whom they were sitting across from.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

One of the girls looked a lot like Debra Winger, but it wasn't her.

That scene does stand out and really makes you contemplate the situation. Great posts here by the way. Did anyone at the time think that Swan was going to at some point pick up the corsage (flowers) and give them to Mercy. The first time I viewed this I thought it was going to happen but never did.

How did Mercy end up getting the corsage, then?

reply

One of the prom girls must've inadvertently dropped her corsage, or deliberately let it fall to the subway train floor, shortly before they got off. After the prom-going couples got off, Swan picked up the corsage and gave it to Mercy.

Its prob the most touching scene in the whole movie !
