Other than his wife Bonnie cheating on him, let's consider how lucky this poor guy actually was. First of all, he's only a few yards away from "Faithful" the dog getting killed in the cemetery; then soon after, he's just as close as "Barlow?" does the same to Larry. He just dodged 2 major bullets, and he even gets to escape the 'Lot before all hell breaks loose.

Also, I don't think I ever saw this mentioned on the old board either, but he was also one of the volunteers in the woods looking for Ralphie Glick, and this was AFTER his wife gets caught with Larry. I think someone or some entity was looking out for Cully.

I'd love to read some thoughts on this.

In the novel, his character was called Reggie and the person caught cheating with Bonnie was a telephone repairman, a kid. The scene there plays out pretty much as it did in the film, with the shotgun, and Bonnie getting slapped around by Reggie. Also, in the novel, he didn't live in the Lot, if memory serves.

FWIW. But to your point, Cully is very lucky indeed. He does manage to avert disaster by a whisker, doesn't he?

I didn't recall his being on the search.

You are correct; Someone was looking out for him.

Yeah. Cully was lucky all around. Even before the vampires. She may have cheated on him, but his wife was way out of the league of a fatso like him.

I watched the search scene a few times, and he's definitely looking for the kid, while carrying his shotgun. Also, watch the scene really close, and you'll see one of the volunteers actually fall down and get back up like nothing happened.
