How did the company know about the alien on LV-426?

I am passingly familiar with the Alien franchise, but I'm not an expert. Was this ever explained in the subsequent movies that I missed?

reply

Well the company found out after the crew of Nostromo/Ash told them. They didn't know beforehand

reply

Okay, so Ash (after coming out of stasis) decrypted the entire stream, communicated with the Company (which I assume to be Weyland-Yutani), got the response which was the soul-less report, and acted accordingly. Plausible. I always assumed the whole thing was planned to some degree before the plot started.

reply

They changed science officers shortly before the Noatromo was sent out.

I think they wanted Ash there because they suspected there might be something on the planet. They dont get into the reasons, though. A lot of things are like that in these movies. My guess is it might have had something to do with the laws deciding who gets the rights to things like a salvaged wreck or making a discovery of a new species.

There is so much wrong with this movie, but it was/is fun to watch.

For example, we saw the size of the micro-alien when it burst from Kane's chest ... how could that not be picked up by the med-scanner, or how could Kane not feel terrible with something that size inside him?

If I eat a big meal I feel crappy right away.

Then there is the blasé way they handled the whole situation with Kane when he was injured and exposed to the planet's atmophere, and they just let him in. I could forgive that, but they they has no idea if there was something in the ship.

Also, the alien, seemed to grow without eating anything organic to huge proportions, but it needed to gestate inside of a living human host? It really was dumb.

Fun but dumb.

reply

Ash was operating the scanner that "missed" the chestburster.

Kane did feel terrible.

It didn't look to me like they were very experienced with alien life form emergencies. And they didn't just let him in. Dallas and Lambert were panicking and fearful for Kane's life. Ripley rightly refused them back on the ship. But Ash went over her head and let them in on anyway.

It "gestated" in the human body for a few hours and then displayed accelerated growth when exposed to the air in the life support system of the ship. And it's an alien organism. Who knows, eh?

You're great at rationalization, but not so rational.

reply

I'm sorry but there were things wrong with the statements you made about the movie.

Feel free to still consider the movie is stupid or wrong. But it will take more than wrong and stupid statements about it to convince me.

I would never try to convince anyone?

I would never try to convince anyone?

Why are you asking me if you would never try to convince anyone?

If you wanted to point out something stupid, you could question why only Parker and Dallas wake up from months/years of hypersleep with any facial hair growth.

reply

Hate to say it, but you are right on all counts =) Alien was so dark and cool I guess I never felt like picking it apart to the that degree of granularity...
