self-made millionaire

Hi everybody,

I'm new on this board. I watched Hart to Hart in its first run on TV and enjoyed it very much. Haven't really watched it since then. I didn't realize it was out on DVD. Have to check that out.

But I do have a question. Throughout the series, Jonathan Hart is refered to as a "self-made millionaire" (his company is called "Hart Industries", if memory serves). Was it ever mentioned just exactly how Mr. Hart made his millions, and what line of business he is in? A friend thought that he was in the oil business, but for some reason that didn't sound right.

Does anyone know?

Thank you for your help, and have a good day.

Sam

He was an electronics genius - in the Hart's world Bill Gates would be redundant.

His money wasn't just from electronics though. Throughout the series property, oil and banking are also mentioned.

in an episode it was made clear that he also was in the toy-business (some spies wanted to steal the model of a toy horse, that his company was producing)

reply

Not sure what you mean by redundant; computer hardware is useless without the software to make it work...

He also owned a ship yard.

Just wanted to let you know - Jonathan got started through stuff to do with radios and transistors - thus the electorinic genius that someone else mentioned - max helped him get started! he owned hart industries which was a conglomerate of over 20 other operations - so he was pretty much involved in every kind of buisness you can imagaine: from shipping and toys to experimental science and ocean liners!

Prostitution and drugs - Max was 'The Muscle'.

I actually really enjoy this show, just pulling your chain a bit!

"Hart Industries" was Jonathan's version of ACME.

All that matters is that he is rich. The nature of his enterprises, other than being legitimate, is entirely irrelevant to the narrative. The writers kept adding new businesses to the conglomerate to justify anything they wanted to put in a given episode. It would have been interesting for him to own a posh gentlemen’s club and have Jenna work undercover there.

I liked the show a lot, a deft mix of silly and solid class. The 2 leads are class from head to toe.
