Mrs. Garrett vs. Beverly Ann

I've always thought Mrs. G ruled, as I tapered off my viewing as the series went on. I still do, in general, but as I rewatch the series, I'm noticing things.

Mrs. Garrett rocked for quite a while, but started getting way dopier and sillier as the seasons went on, probably most notably towards the end of the Edna's Edibles era. Didn't add much to things, and actually started to annoy me. As Over Our Heads started, even ditzier. Then Charlotte Rae started phasing out of the show, possibly coincidence or because of the character's change?

And now that I watch BA in action, she's actually not bad. I'm liking what I see in season 8 so far.

So are you Team BA or Team Mrs. G? I guess I'm both, depending on the season.

reply

I loved her @ eastland. Thought the silliness was bc Rae was bored with the role. Dislike Beverly Ann.

Think that either one or both of Edna's sons (coincidentally a carpenter and an accountant) should have been brought on Thought it would have been interesting for them to themselves 'start over' You did not need Beverly Ann to watch over adult women;.

reply

Interesting idea with the son. Although that would be even more weird with the girls, lol.

Halfway through the BA years currently, and now feeling she is hit and miss. Still better than I thought back in the day. Still feel Mrs. G was horrible towards her time on the show though.

they're adults why did they need beverly ann to watch over them??

the girls watch as the two brothers start bickering over random stuff. Would be far more interesting. Clooney was hot....but it would have been funny to hear Mr. Garrett!! and then try and figure out which one and they could have kept the store and school together

reply

She wasn't watching over them. She was running the business for Mrs. Garrett. She was more like the girls' landlady and friend.

reply

why did they need a landlady then? if they were supposed to be equal partners according to original agreement for over our heads? She would have just sold her share to the girls

reply

I don't know, but that's what Beverly Ann was. She was the landlady. Maybe the girls were not interested.

reply

I like both Beverly Ann and Mrs. G.
