Pedophilia

What was the deal with Brian, the 30 year old news reporter and the 16 year old? They didn't even hide behind closed doors, they kissed on the rink in front of the audience AND the documentary cameras. (Plus, pedophilia aside, doesn't that ruin his journalistic integrity? You can't eff with your subject without, well....effing with your subject) No, time did not pass and she did not become legal. The trainer chick said that they only had six months to train or something.

Hell, even if she was 17 or 18, its still creepy. He wasn't a 22 year old intern, he was a fully established reporter, at least 30.

It doesn't both me so much that the movie "went there", its just that no one seems to talk about it. What gives?

.. There was a time in the USA not that long ago when older men could openly date much younger girls without being cast as immoral or illegal

reply

It was a different time. My teen idol Rick Springfield was in his late twenties in the late 70's and dated 15 year old Linda Blair after The Exorcist was filmed, out in the open! Not only that, he met her in a bar on the Sunset Strip! Times were much simpler back then and things weren't frowned upon like they are now.

reply

Frowned upon? But what about ILLEGAL

reply

Exactly, the whole point is that it SHOULD be frowned upon.

Age is really nothing but an arbitrary number. People who work in the film industry (or any parts of the entertainment business) are generally more mature than non-industry people. Not making excuses, but there are always mitigating circumstances for the way things are.

That may be the single most idiotic thing I've ever heard in my life. What exactly are you basing your idiotic comment on?

reply

I guess I should have been more specific, since you didn't get that I was obviously referring to kids and young adults who work in the entertainment industry (which was, after all, the topic of this thread). Kids who work as actors are generally more mature because one, they're working, something most kids as a general rule don't do, and, two, because they are, through the course of that work, exposed to more experiences than normal kids. The have the opportunity to travel, to see and experience things most of us never will. And, they make a lot more money than normal kids. This in itself brings on a greater responsibility for them, hence their maturation process is sped up. Not so idiotic if you stop and think about it.

Try viewing anything outside your narrow 21st prism once in a while.

I just saw the movie today, and yes that was creepy even if he did sincerely care about her. I think her dad would have punched him if he saw that, if he did persue her, I'm pretty sure her dad would have made him wait until she graduated HS.

Pedophilia? Are you *beep* serious??? Look up the definition of pedophilia. She is clearly a mature young woman, even if she's 16. Pedophiles go for prepubescent girls (baldies). Unless she was getting Brazilians at the time, she wasn't a baldie.

Pathetic.

reply

It was the 70s. Everyone was a pedophile back then. Same thing with the 80s.
