the reason why Sonny dragged Sandy away from dancing with Danny was because they needed an established dancer like Cha-Cha to dance with Danny for the image of the school ?

Is that correct, or why then did Sonny take Sandy away from Danny ?

Sonny was wasted. Someone probably said go dance with Sandy and he did it.
