Has someone who has watched it only recently, become a harcore fan?

I had been putting off watching the saga as I thought it too old and would not not appeal to me. Happens with most of the old sci fi flicks. And I don't blame them. The special effects can only be as advanced as the time permits.

But there have been 4 newer installments as well starting 2015 and I avoided them too as most of them are pretty much linked with the original 6 episodes. I somehow finally decided to binge watch the entire saga so that I don't miss on atleast the new ones. I started with them in the release order.

Well I can't blame the special effects as I have mentioned eralier, but to my surprise the plot, the acting, and the characters were ridiculous. I mean, not a single actor seems to have put any effort to make it believable. For example the fight between Vader and Obi Won. Can a saber/sword fight be worse? They seem to be cajouling around with each other.

The dialog was equally crass almost everywhewre.

So my question is do you like it just for the breakthrough in special effects for 70's or do you see atleast some matrial in there?

I can see why you have no replies.

Ha ha...

I am on the the 1st episode now nonetheless. I can't believe there is still intoduction to the universe in general. All the prologues have to say is rebel forces this and rebel forces that. 22 years till episode 1 and Lucas never clarifies what kind of universe this is. Different just keep popping up along with different terms. We got sith in ep 1. I can watch the 2nd episode immediately but I can't believe he made people wait for another 3 years to tell what a sith is exactly.

Well, with all due respect, you don't get to decide that. First of all I had never asked for the opinion you gave. I wonder if you even started watching it recently and qualify to answer. I guess you must have watched it years ago.

If not, I am all ears.

I watched it when it was first released, likewise with Empire and Jedi , its still as spectacular now as it was then , favourite movie of all time.

reply

I respect your opinion. But as I said earlier I was not asking for it :-) I specifically want people who watched it for the first time recently to answer this.

reply

i did, when i watched it first time i was blown away and still am to this day

Suppose in my day you didnt really have big blockbuster on this scale, 70s is renowened for being the best era in cinema history , so many classic films with average budgets, ANH was a game changer in the sense that it changed how movies were made moving forward and had a larger budget

People now watching it first time will judge it more on its special effects as they are used to less organic movies.

The dialogue isnt the best in these movies , the vader obi wan fight i have no problem with , looks like traditional sword fighting to me, infinitly better than the prequels and sequels IMO, and i think id be in the majority in having that opinion.

I understand your love for the movie. But I am not interested in knowing what the seventies were like. Please try to understand that my question was ment to s specific set of people for a reason, and you definitelty don't belong to that that group.
There are a lot of threads on the internet where pople proclaim their love for star wars whole heartedly. My humble suggestion for you is to go to those and enlighten fellow fans with your views.

I am just trying to figure what a newbie, like me, to the series feels. I really hope you can respect that and stop spamming this thread.

you are not overlord of Moviechat, i shall write where i like and respond to what ever i want to respond to , this thread is nonesense anyway.

And this, my dear Sir, is the exact reason I didn't want to discuss anything with someone like you. You simply are not eligible to answer my question. While you obviously are free to spam.

good luck with this thread , i actually made it more intreasting, 1 reply on top of mine, good job.

Come on man.. Why are you so pissed. I was never aiming for this to become an epic 5000 posts thread. I just wanted a couple of views. And then you start spamming and truned it into something else. I never wanted it to be bloody "interesting".

I can never understand what goes inside the heads of fanatics of some or the other kind like you.

" For example the fight between Vader and Obi Won"
Any other examples? Obi wan basically suicided there so it wasnt going to be epic - what about the luke v vader battle in "empire"
How far through the original 3 were you when you wrote your op?

Did Han shoot first? :)

reply

Ep 4.

Luke vs Vader was just OK. A little better. I found saber battles with maul a lot better in ep1. Will be watching ep 2 today. Let's see if it gets any better.

And that one of the things that put me. Off. Could han solo be acted any more atrociously by Ford. And 22 years till ep 1, I still don't have frigging background on the universe they are in.
