Are there any other old spider themed movies?

I seem to remember one when I was a kid in the 80's where there was a giant, building sized spider that attacked a town. Am I imagining this?
Kingdom of The Spiders was very familiar to me but whilw watching it, I kept thinking I was recalling another one from around the same era....

No, you're not imagining it. I believe you're referring to 'The Giant Spider Invasion', a 1975 ultra-low-budget crapfest starring Barbara Hale of 'Perry Mason' fame. I'm sure Ms. Hale would like to forget this one... and probably hopes everyone else will too. :-)

The giant "spider" was obviously a VW Beetle in a spider suit. <G>

Great scott, I think you're right!
Thanks dude. I'm going to check netflix right now...

And if I can make recomendations to other people seeing bad spider movie goodness, I highly suggest Spiders (2000) and Creepies (2003)

I rented it on netflix. They had the MST3K version.
Thank god, not as cool as I remmeber.
Funny thing is, when I was remembering the movie I was thinking from when I was a kid, it was pretty much a conglomeration of both movies. I thought I recalled several scenes in both, just thought it was one movie, lol.

There was also Kiss Of The Tarantula made in 1972. It was basically a Willard rip-off about a teenage outcast who uses her pet tarantulas to get revenge on her enemies. Quite a poor movie, might I add. But it's a curio.

You must be referring to either EARTH VS THE SPIDER or TARANTULA, two black-and-white B flicks from the 1950s. TARANTULA, especially, is quite good, and considered a minor classic nowadays. It features Clint Eastwood's first feature film appearance, little more than a walk-on, lol. The movie shows up frequently on the cable channel Chiller late at night.

My favorite monster type movies are spider ones, there was also Curse of the Black Widow,a 70's TV movie, and Deadly Cargo, not giant spiders, but another 70's spider flick, neither of them are as fun as Kingdom though.

Tarantulas:The Deadly Cargo also from 1977. It's a made-for-TV movie though but still good. :-)

Ha! The MST3K version of "The Giant Spider Invasion"

"Hey Steve, does this seem like a real gross planet we're invading?"

"Should he be eating that guy with his butt?"
"No, but it seems appropriate for this guy."

For me, Spiderman 3 is the best spider themed movie

reply

It certainly was better than the first or second one.
