If Apollo had beaten Rocky would he be able to beat Clubber Lang?

Just had to ask this question because in Rocky 2 Apollo Creed was way ahead in point until Rocky knocked him out by one second, surely if Apollo had gotten back up he would have won based on points at that time.

Now after that he congratulates Rocky Balboa on being a great fighter and Rocky has to climb back up the ranks or retire, Rocky might fight and retire in a few years.

Apollo Creed would still be the world champion and would go on as undefeated, all of the losers that Rocky beat between Rocky 2 and 3 were easy, Clubber Lang on the other hand was a monster and Mickey saw him coming and tried to prevent Rocky from fighting him.

Makes you wonder if Apollo Creed would have been confident enough to blow Clubber Lang off because he had beaten Rocky twice and everyone else, then got cocky and thought that he could drop this chump, Clubber would not view him as a has been anymore but as a real opponent to defeat for the title, Apollo had his pride and was very fast.

But i think that Apollo would have struggled against Clubber Lang, he wouldnt expect his power and would get enraged if Clubber invited his wife to have sex with him like he did with Adrian, then you have Apollo playing Clubbers game, Clubber was bound to show up and challenge for the title anyway, Apollo wouldnt hide from a chump like him, but Duke would see him coming and get ignored again.

Would love to see Apollo as the champ survive Rocky only to mow through more guys and hit the roadblock that is Clubber Lang, a man with far more power than Rocky had and a chip on his shoulder, not wanting to be blown off and angry for waiting, Apollo might lose and try to have a rematch and lose again, no sportsmanship there at all either.

Clubber Lang had more raw power than Apollo and could hit much harder. In this series of movies he was the 2nd hardest hitter after Ivan Drago.

If Apollo goes "toe to toe" with him and fights him straight up Lang wins through brute force but if Apollo fights smart and strategizes like Mohammid Ali and dances around him and takes advantage of his better agility and mobility and sticks his jab and wears him out gradually then Apollo will win. Because I believe this is what Apollo would do my money would be on him, but he would just have to be careful not to let it become a slug fest.

My guess is 90 percent probability Apollo wins, and 10 percent that Clubber manages to get in some of his awesome punches and take Creed down.

You really thought this out.

Apollo would have beaten Clubber. His style was perfect against Clubber. That is exactly the reason why he taught Rocky in preparation for their second fight. That, and he does not seem to have the jaw/head that Rocky does to absorb all of Apollo's shots. Ultimately, Apollo would have worn him out.

And Clubber would have never insinuated anything with Apollo's wife because Apollo always strived to fight the best fighters as implied in 'Rocky' when he was in Miles Jergen's office. Clubber only did that to Rocky because he was being disrespected by Rocky and Mickey. The only reason why Apollo fought Rocky in the first place is because there were no ranked fighters available that he had not already defeated (all others were injured or out of shape) and he felt the fight needed a gimmick to draw in the fan appeal. If Clubber was the #2 ranked fighter, he would have gotten his shot.

That's my take on it.

I dont think Apollo could beat Clubber Lang, he was too powerful, remember that another powerhouse Ivan Drago killed Apollo easily, Clubber would knock him out quickly, he was too aggressive and wouldnt hold back like Rocky did, that would make Apollo get hurt or knocked out, he couldnt evade him like he did with Rocky.

George Foreman was very powerful too. He knocked Frazier down multiple times and ultimately got the KO. Foreman could not knock out Ali. Why? Because Ali was smarter and faster. There's more to boxing than raw power, as Rocky demonstrated in the second fight. He made Clubber whiff and ultimately wore him out in the 3rd Round.

Yes. Drago killed Apollo easily. But do I have to remind you that Apollo had not had a professional fight in 5 years? It showed during the Drago fight with him falling over himself before Drago even threw a punch. Unlike Clubber, Drago was also more conditioned for a longer fight. He had more endurance. I have no reason to doubt that Apollo, in his prime, would wear out Clubber no different than Rocky did in the rematch.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree...

Drago was in steroids. That's the most important thing.

Rocky wasn't beaten easy in the first movie. He went all 15 rounds. Knocked down the champ.

Clubber Lang was a horrible boxer. Every punch he threw was a haymaker. Rocky beat him easily by copying Apollo's boxing style (and in the process, demonstrating how easy those haymakers are to avoid), so of course Apollo himself would have beaten him.

Nope, Apollo was too scared of Clubber!

There's no evidence of that in the movies whatsoever, so consider your mere assertion dismissed out of hand.

Lang was a joke. Apollo outpoints him over 15 to the tune of 150-135, if Lang could stay on his feet that long.

Lang would quit on his stool after about 8 after taking a thorough pounding. Or he would foul out ala Tyson vs Holyfield 1997.
