This film is much better than I expected, having seen some of Delon's work not done with Monsiuer Melville and having found it lacking (Swimming Pool psr example).
Good cinematography that doesn't get in the way of the story telling, set design is good for that era, I usually don't like set design from the late 70's.
The more I watch Alain Delon the more I like him actually.
Have you seen him in Un Flic, The Red Circle, Purple Noon? He's so good in those three.
This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
Delon made a lot of garbage, but when he was good he was fantastic! This was one of his worthwhile films, really excellent with such a strong, dank, wartime atmosphere and the Kafkaesque feel over it. The same thing could be said about Losey's work as Delon's work - they both were working with commitment and intelligence here.
