Nobody knows this movie? unless...

Unless you mention swimming in soda pop and they go Ohhh yeah I kinda remember....GEEZ!!!
It is hilarious at times and at times grating but You can always be sure of a good time to be had. What gets me is the bar scene with the unemployed bus drivers..This movie came before Airplane (4 years before!!) and it has a lot of sight gags and things to be on the lookout for. I hope somebody responds who has seen this movie and has enjoyed it!!

me my bro and my father rented this movie just because it was there. we all laufed like mad. but that was like 7 years ago.

I first saw it years ago and always rememebr it as being very funny. Over the years I have never met anyone who has seen it apart from me.

I bought the DVD recently. Well, it is laboured in parts, but it still had some great moments, especially the on-board swimming pool and bowling alley.

I also loved the tag line, what was it? something like: 'non-stop from NY to Denver' as if it was a trans-continental aeroplane.

It is surpsising that it came some years before Airplane. I think most people believe the spoof films started then.

It's on DVD? Man...

Anyway, I'm surprised my favorite quote from the movie isn't in the quotes (when they're trying to slow down)

"Release the flags of many nations!"

I might change my sig to that!

And I had completely forgotten about swimming in soda!

Jamie (Mythbusters): Adam, the police officers say you need to drink more.

My favorite (if I get it right) is "Cyclopes Control! We're breaking wind! We're breaking wind!".

I totally love this movie!!! I first saw it when I was 17 years old with some geek-type friends...it truly was years ahead of its time! It is in many ways a better movie than Airplane!, because its humor was more original in its time, and it does no rely so heavily on one-liner jokes for its comedy. To me, the funniest scenes are the "throw aways", like at the very beginning when Ned Beatty's character has to insert the nuclear rod by hand after the robotic arm drops it, and when Beatty's ex-top assistant Jack shows up at the end asking if the heart-broken Beatty can "spare a cup of coffee" for him. This is an underrated gem!

My most vivid memory of this movie was the guy laying the parking lot because he had a St. Christopher medal (I think it was a St. Christopher medal) stuck in his chest. it was too dangerous to move him. lol

reply

Yes, it was a St. Christopher medal. How ironic that an icon of the patron saint of travelers should prove to be so lethal. The guy had to lie in the parking lot in the rain.

I remember this film very well as I saw it in a movie theatre when it first came out. I have always liked this film. Too bad it was not a success. At least it was totally original for it's time.

I'm watching it right now, I BOUGHT the DVD and I can't afford many but it's a personal favorite. This is more funny now than it was when I first saw it, probably in the 80s when I was in my 20s. Love it!

Right now I've been laughing so hard my roommate, who is very, very tolerant, is actually "complaining" because I'm so loud but this movie is hilarious!

Airplane's jokes are actually getting old as I've seen them plenty of times. I didn't know that "The Big Bus" preceded Airplane! I think Airplane stole all the ideas from them! Even the movie "Speed" probably got the idea for a bomb on a bus from this movie!

I'm really enjoying it and really find it wild with all the special effects that were done while the bus was actually on the road! Seeing it spewing soap foam all over the bus and the road, seeing cars passing by and wondering how they reacted to that wild rig!

Oh man! But then I guess you have to be an old fuddy duddy like me (I'm 49 you young whippersnappers!) to really appreciate the comedy!

Here's to "The Big Bus 2: Denver to San Francisco"!!!!

Funny...I had NOT remembered that part. But, I VIVIDLY remember "Jane's Book of Bombs" as well as the brilliant early scene in the "bus drivers' bar." In many respects, this film is superior to "Airplane!" (highly over-rated, in my opinion) because humorous references are far more subtle.

Where do you start with classic quotes?

"He always liked you better. He even gave you the iron lung."

"Sign here, here and here"
"But you're a doctor."
"Yes, and I intend to stay one."

"Doggy doctor, that's his beat. Four legged friends, he likes to treat. Monkeys and squirrels think he's all reet. Doggy doctor."

etc.

"I know it looked like I fell... but it was all part of my plan!"
