Tanya Roberts had the best career

Out of the 6 angels, Tanya Roberts is the only angel who managed to make it big on the silver screen.
She was the lead in Sheena, a cult movie (a bad and cheap cult film, but still...).
She was also in the beastmaster and she was the James Bond girl in A View To A Kill.

I'm not saying she's a terrific actress...in fact she was probably the weakest of the bunch.
But still, she's the one who went on to star in movies, while the other angels confined themselves mostly on tv.

In later years she was in That 70's show, too. And, exept Cheryl who starred in Las Vegas, no other angel has been in the main cast of such a popular show.

What do you think ?

Actually, Kate Jackson starred in "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" which was a very popular tv show and lasted for many seasons.

reply

Yeah, but Scarecrow and mrs King was in the early 80's, while tanya roberts kept on being in big projets until the 21st century...

But...Kate was older than Tanya by about eight years so does it make Tanya's career more valuable because she was younger and her career took place during a different time frame? Tanya was still a child/teen when Kate started acting on TV in the late '60s and early '70s. Acting in the early 2000s is not more important than acting in the late '60s/early and mid-'70s, it is just later.

Compare:

Kate Jackson

"Dark Shadows" (1970-1971)--highly rated TV show, supporting character

"The Rookies" (1972-1976)--highly rated TV show, started out as a supporting character but grew into more of a major role due to her popularity, even getting more fan mail than her male co-stars who were supposed to be the lead characters

"Charlie's Angels" (1976-1979)--hugely popular TV show, leading character

"Scarecrow and Mrs. King" (1984-1987)--very popular TV show, leading character

And a couple of feature films, many made for TV movies, and a starring role in another, albeit much less successful TV show, "Baby Boom" from 1988-1989

Tanya Roberts

"Charlie's Angels" (1980-1981)-- Hugely popular TV show, although by the time she was a starring character it was slipping fast and only lasted that year

A couple of feature films. "Sheena" was a cult classic but mainly for Roberts' physical attributes and the sheer awfulness of it.

"The '70s Show" (1998-2004)--very popular TV show, supporting character

If you look at the sheer volume of Kate's work as a leading character in very popular shows that lasted for several years, she has a very impressive body of work. She was also nominated for some Emmys and Golden Globes. I'm not sure if anyone else from CA ever was.

Overall, I think Kate had a more impressive career.

You said it all. Despite being 7 years older and a better actress, Kate Jackson never was able to distance herself from the small screen and faded away at the end of the 80's.

Roberts, despite being younger and less talented, managed to hit the silver screen in huge productions and was still in the main cast of a popular show in the 2000's.

reply

Well, we can certainly agree to disagree.

Actually, unless you are specifically talking about their acting careers, Jaclyn Smith is by far the most successful all around. She is probably the one most likely to be a household name and her business career with marketing her Jaclyn Smith line at K-Mart has been a phenomenal success over the decades, particularly during the '80s and '90s, and has given her the opportunity to amass a personal net worth that any of the other Angels actresses could only dream of. She has also kept her acting career rolling along, beginning in the late '60s and continuing well into the 2000s, although she has not received the accolades for her acting that Kate Jackson did during her heyday.

reply

We agree on that point : Jaclyn Smith is themost successfull business woman.
And Kate Jackson is the more talented and/or has the most acting crédits.

But I'm talking about the ability to leave the TV area and star in major theatrical films, or lasting through the 2000's.
I think Tanya Roberts wins on that.

reply

Ladd had the best, since she didn't just make DTV low-budget films for the heck of it. Ladd starred in more feature films with name-stars than Tanya. We dont expect you to understand.

reply

Not even close. Either Cameron Diaz or Drew Barrymore

reply

I beg to differ. Farrah Fawcett became a respected actress after "The Burning Bed". Roberts remained more or less a B movie queen.

reply

I think she was the beast actress of the angels.

reply

She was definitely the beast actress in The Beastmaster. Also the breast actress, as my teenage self acknowledged when I saw it (them).

reply

Damn autocorrect. Ha. I suppose Tanya Roberts was the beast actress, since she ended up in those Beastmaster movies after the show ended.
