I saw this movie when I was 9 and now I am 27. It was kinda mature for a 9 year old, but I found it gripping then. I still think I would find it interesting 18 years later through a more mature lens. You would think that after DVD's have been going strong for a decade that ALL theatrical movies of the 70's (or any decade after the 50's)would have already been released..... NOT SO!
Has this movie aired on Network TV, Basic Cable, or the Premium Channels in the last 10-15 years? If it has, it has passed me by.
Thanks for the link. I believe that article refers to the rights of any remakes not distribution, and will apply to the Fincher remake in development right now.
"You could be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." For years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.
I just purchased a DVD of this movie for 10.00 plus s/h in Aug of 2008. It seems to be a DVD dub from the VHS version. It is a decent dub of VHS quality. It has a basic menu and scene selection of poor quality - but functional. Assumed it was a valid copy since it is such an obscure title, who would bother to illegally dub it for sale? I was sure happy to find it in DVD format, though, as it was one of my favorite movies from that time in my life. Great to see it again.
I purchased a copy from www.modcinema.com and it looks great, since this film has never aired on cable as far as I know this might be the only place to find it.

Periodically I email Qualia requesting they release the 1975 film "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" on DVD. The film is rarely seen today and old VHS tapes regularly sell for large sums on eBay. There is a small but loyal following to this film that wants to see it remastered and in its original widescreen aspect ratio. Why won't Qualia release this film, or license it to someone who will?
A good question, but since it is currently being remade,it may finally see the light of day soon.
I found a used VHS tape of this a year ago,and the quality wasn't too bad, though of course it needs widescreen remastering to bring it into the digital age!
I know this is years after the first post, but I found a copy on Amazon (it was pricey..almost $40)that was an import with Portuguese subtitles but English audio. You can shut off the subtitles. It looks great on my old TV (I have never watched it on my Plasma) but I am so happy to have it. The cover is in Portuguese too. It's Region 0. will play on all DVDs in the US and Canada too.
I just watched it again tonight. I happen to love this movie. Dated, but still very enjoyable. I had a previous one that someone burned from a VHS that was awful, and the end was cut off, so I'm glad I took a shot and bought it since I doubt it will ever be released here.
Remember us, for we too have lived, loved and laughed
It is now available on Youtube for free. The quality is poor, but it is what VHS looked like. You will not find any better quality until they decide to remaster it and stream it for a couple of dollars.
Sadly, this film has fallen into obscurity – unless it was there from the beginning. I doubt we'll be able to do better than the YouTube-quality releases available now. That's a shame, because this is a 10/10 in my book, and I'm highly selective with my 10s.
There is a Korean DVD release that is region free and will play on most American machines. It has English audio and subtitles are not enabled by default. You can find it at Amazon USA and Amazon UK.
Guess I'll be breaking out my VHS copy my wife bought for me for Christmas some 20 years ago.. Been a couple of years since I've seen it last. Seems it doesn't even get TV airplay anymore.
I'd LOVE to get a Bluray of this film.
Edit: after posting, I checked the web and found a blu-ray of this film. It's supposedly HD culled from the original 35mm print.
