Mr Jaws

Does anyone remember the novelty song Mr Jaws that came out in 1975 by Dickie Goodman. I just came across my old 45. We are here at the beach where a giant shark has just eaten a girl swimmer. I use to play it all the time.

How many remember the cartoon?

There was a comic strip too (that's the British version of "comic" , that's actually comedic hence the name , not your American "comic book" that is neither comedy nor a book and is instead full of inane superheroes wearing their underwear on the outside)
I digress, in one of the UK kids comics of the early 80s there was a shark, presumably becasue Jaws was big news back then. I remember him eating a load of tinned food that had fallen off a boat:
"I love tinned food - its so crunchy!"

Old post and we're digressing here, but comic books featuring superheroes and other kinds of adventure stories have a following in the UK and that's what they call them there, as well, based on what I have seen and heard. Many are imports from the US, but they have a comic book industry of their own, too.

This post got me curious, because I'd seen Spaced and Simon Pegg's character worked in a comic book store very similar to what we have in the US, where they sold those superhero and other non comedic comics and the subject came up often on the show, and they did call them comic books.

Googling I easily found several shops selling those kinds of comic books featuring people who wore their underwear on the outside, and many of them had comic as part of the name of the shop. It's possible the UK picked up using comic that way from the US years ago, but it doesn't really matter how that came to be. The point is, its pretty common over there too, calling them comic books.

Just thought I'd post on the off chance someone else saw that and was curious as well.

I don't remember the cartoon, but I remember the "song" playing on the radio back in the day. In fact I listened to it recently. It can be found on YouTube. Ahh memories.

Only good bit - "Do the Hustle!"

The Kong one was funnier, I think.

We're here on Skull Island, where a forty foot gorilla has just kidnapped Dwan, a young actress.
Hey Kong, what did you tell her?

Tonight's the night

And what did she say to you?

You've got a cute way of talking

When do you intend to let her go?

After the lovin'

Dwan, if you can hear me up there,
What advice do you have for someone who is kidnapped by a forty foot gorilla?

Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself

Thank you, Dwan... Dwan... Okay!

Kong, you're going to New York to do a concert.
While you're there, where are you going to take a bath?

At the car wash

One last question before you go.
What do you call that weird way you walk?

Dazz, Dazz, Disco-Jazz

We're here in New York where the stadium is filled.
Kong, what do you feel like with all these people around?

Just another new kid in town

Kong is breaking loose.
He doesn't want to do the concert.
Dwan, say something to him!

You don't have to be a star, baby

He's heading for the World Trade Center.
We'll have to get help to stop this monkey.

Hot line, hot line
Calling on the hot line

Kong has reached the trade center.
He's climbing to the top.
Kong, what are you doing up there?

Writing something nasty on the wall

We're here with Kong on top of the World Trade Center.
Army helicopters are shooting at him.
Kong is shouting something up at them.

Hand me down my walking cane
Hand me down my hat

They've hit him!
Kong, have you any last words to say to Dwan?

When will I hold you again

He's starting to fall!
Hey, Kong, you're on my foot!
We're falling!
Kong! Kong! Ko-o-o-o-ong!
