Did you ever see Requiem For A Dream? That is a movie that shows what the true feeling of Herion is like.

Review of "Requiem for a Dream" by everyone I've ever talked to that's seen it:

"It's the most amazing movie I've ever seen. I'm never going to watch it again."

That's the literal truth!

That about sums it up. Very good movie. Far too depressing to ever watch again.

reply

Not to sound like a cynical jerk but you must be pretty naive to think anybody who would "experiment" with Heroin is researching it on the internet beforehand.

I didn't say anybody who experiments with any drug doesn't research it first. I've done the same thing. But, my point was very specific; that is, speaking directly of heroin - my point was no more general, no more specific.

I can't believe that anyone who is smart enough to research anything would actually experiment with a death trap like Heroin! Unless he/she is masochistic or thinks he is super-human!!! Ok using it might be tons of fun, but who hasn't seen the nasty, filthy, gritty and dirty truth of addiction by observing a friend, family member, stranger or in the movies?
Experimenting with Heroin thinking you won't get hooked like any other human being is like taking Cyanide and hoping that you are the first immortal person on Earth!

reply

I don't think anyone is going to research it and then by the end of their research say, "Eh, f#ck it. I'll try it anyway."

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!

I'd have to say trainspotting takes the cake in that department, even over requiem for a dream

The film 'Candy' with Heath Ledger has the most realistic cold turkey scene I've ever seen. Trainspotting probably the most unrealistic. The most difficult thing to convey is how long the withdrawal lasts for, 3-5 days for the most severe symptoms & 1-3 weeks for the minor ones. Then when it's all over, you have depression to look forward to. Oh happy days.

Both "Requiem for a Dream" and "Trainspotting" glamorize heroin to some degree. Largely because the actors playing "addicts" are cool and attractive. Ditto for "Christiane F."

I think "The French Connection II" does a better job of showing the horrors of withdrawal, largely because Doyle's "addiction" is forced on him.

Ultimately, though, I don't think too many people get addicted to heroin because a movie made it look cool.

Having myself used H for 6 yrs and now i'm on a methadone program for last 9 yrs starting at 120mgs to my present 8 mgs I can say that would not wish H on my worse enemy. Methadone saved my life and without it i'd be dead or in jail. I am now married with 2 kids, house, car and a good job. Hopefully within time i'll be off methdone but 1 day at a time. Good movie. Trainspotting and this movie are very close to reality but nothing compares to living it.

Best withdrawal performance is Frank Sinatra in "The Man with the Golden Arm." Favorite junkie movie evah.

I worked with a guy who told me about his dad. He said his dad was a biker and the first time he took heroin, the first thing he thought was 'what do I have to do so I can do this the rest of my life'. Its all downhill from there.
