Does ODESSA really exist?

This is got to be one of the scariest conspiracy organization theories next to the Kennedy assassination.

If ODESSA really exists, it ranks as one of the most successful underground secret organizations that has never been compromised. It makes you wonder how the Nazis lost the war with such a ruthlessly efficient organization.

Right now the HISTORY CHANNEL is showing a MysteryQuest special, "Search For Odessa". It's more than interesting to watch; it's downright creepy. Ostensibly the theory is that ODESSA was able to manipulate the governments and officials of former Allied countries and Axis powers to ensure hundreds of SS and Nazi war criminals escaped mostly to South America. Most disturbing is the alleged connection to Roman Catholic priests and by implication high Church officials in Rome, helping German war criminals procure false identity documents in order to escape Europe. What kind of blackmail did ODESSA have on the Roman Catholic Church in Vatican? Was that fiction book I came across two decades ago closer to the truth than I think? The Nazis had something dark and terrible to use as leverage against the Vatican. Conspiracy theory: The Nazis had located the tomb of Jesus and his bones inside. The revelation of Jesus' earthly remains would collapse Christianity as we know it. It would have proven that Arian Catholicism, not Roman Catholicism should have been the Church in Vatican today. Who knows? This is more than a couple of German SS and Nazi thugs holding pistols to the heads of a couple of Catholic priests and forcing them to forge identity documents. More, how did ODESSA slip through the nets of the vengeful victorious Allies, especially the enraged Russians? The conspiracy theory is that ODESSA had the money and influence to use it all: bribery, blackmail, sex, technical information, you name it, to use upon the Allied military and government officials to procure safe passage out of Europe. ODESSA is thought to have played the Americans and British successfully against the Russians and vice-versa, offering invaluable technical and espionage information of all the Allies to each other in exchange for safe passage. Even Josef Stalin may have been sucseptible to secret bribery if the dictator was offered a treasure trove of technical and espionage information that would have given him an immense advantage over the Americans and British in case of a World War III in 1947. And in the end, ODESSA is thought to have easily resorted to murder if necessary. Troublesome people just disappeared or were found dead.
There's compelling evidence, mostly accepted today, that the worst of the worst, Adolf Eichman, Joseph Mengele, and Boorman all ended up safely in South America. These guys are all dead, but they escaped international justice and that's the troubling outcome. This may go over the heads of anyone under the age of 30 today, but that dark period in earth's history is but 64 years ago.

Surely a whole lot thinking matter. But keep in mind nazis tried to eliminate jews and that gained them some support inside the Roman Church because Vatican believes jews are to blame for Jesus' crucification. Some muslims were nazi supporters too (google: muslim nazis). They should all be ashamed.

Where did you get that bit of misinformation?

You are saying the Vatican supported the Nazis attempt at wiping out the Jews????

Excuse me, but Jesus Himself WAS a Jew.

As if the Catholic Church needed any reason to further evil.

Vatican, or Christians in general, don't think Jesus as a jew but God. And Christians have blamed the jews for killing Jesus for two thousand years. Antisemitism was not invented in 1900´s.

Check out Martin Luther's : Von Juden und ihre Lügen
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Jews_and_their_Lies

"Section XI of the treatise advises Christians to carry out seven remedial actions. These are (1) for Jewish synagogues and schools to be burned to the ground, and the remnants buried out of sight; (2) for houses owned by Jews to be likewise razed, and the owners made to live in agricultural outbuildings; (3) for their religious writings to be taken away; (4) for rabbis to be forbidden to preach, and to be executed if they do; (5) for safe conduct on the roads to be abolished for Jews; (6) for usury to be prohibited, and for all silver and gold to be removed and "put aside for safekeeping"; and (7) for the Jewish population to be put to work as agricultural slave labor.["

I don't know about Vatican support for nazis but they were not that much against it either.

Christians bear a massive responsibility for the Holocaust, they targeted the Jews as carriers of godless communism.

More Muslims fought for the allies than the axis.

@ Miguel:

I have traveled throughout the Middle East and was shocked to see images of Hitler, Swastikas and also unrelatedly, Che Guevara as idols of admiration.

It shocked me...and I still cannot understand it.

Primarily, The Catholic Church ignored the Holocaust. Pretty much Standard Operating Procedure for them.

Whether ODESSA existed or not is a question of history. I am writing a book about Eichmann, and I have noticed that a lot of the most current books written about Nazis fail to mention how they escape, or even to theorize, while many of the older books (mid-90s and earlier) mention ODESSA. The reason for this seems to be that there is a taboo in accepting that such an organization existed.

Certainly someone helped these people escape, and South America cannot have been a random destination for these people. Certainly not Argentina.

According to Simon Wiesenthal, ODESSA really existed. As to another poster's shock at seeing swastikas, that was an ancient symbol going back thousands of years and representing good luck and auspicious conditions in a number of cultures. Hitler chose it for its myriad positive associations. He changed its meaning, but that doesn't change what it once was. There are still one or two pictures of swastikas that Rudyard Kipling missed when he was removing them from his illustrated stories. They were put there long before Hitler came to power-Kipling removed them out of respect for the Jews. Good for him.

Zanza:

Of course, I realize that the swastika is an ancient symbol. However, where I saw these swastikas was amongst other relics of Hitler's regime, German crosses, and German helmets and Hitler's own image on t-shirts, hats, posters, etc. And these were on the streets and in shops. It was alarming to me - but I tried not to show it.

ODESSA definitely exists. There is a book that may interest you. It is called "The Real ODESSA", written by Uki Goni.

The jury is out. There were other organizations set up to aid Nazi fugitives. Notorious Nazi commando Otto Skorzeny was supposedly trying to set up a fourth reich in Brazil.
