Does this movie offend you?

In a review of 'Harold and Maude' that I came across recently, the reviewer writes that this film "has something to offend almost everyone." I don't quite see this. I am not actually offended by anything in the movie. How about you? Did you find anything offensive while watching it?

reply

Maybe someone close to them committed suicide. I could see why it would maybe offend them. They may still be sensitive over the loss of a loved one.

reply

I didn't. I even got some tips on suicide.

reply

In a word, no.

I always thought some people would be offended by the difference in Harold and Maude's ages and in the scenes showing they had had sex (even though they were tasteful), smoked pot, or the scenes where they mock the military and Harold's uncle. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that those elements and scenes have a lot to do with why most people love this film - it challenges our notions and is irreverent.

Harold and Maude is one of my all time favorite movie and that has something to do with how it pushes limits of acceptance.

reply

The only thing I'm offended by is that this film isn't better known and appreciate by people, outside of being a "cult favorite."

reply

Cat Stevens. Who agreed with the jihad against Salman Rushdie.

reply

I haven't seen it in a long time, but I don't remember any racial/ethnic/gay/gender slurs. Getting offended by this movie is a long reach.
