Guy Hamilton - how did he get this film so wrong? Squandered waste of Connery and Shirley Bassey!

Goldfinger is among the BEST in the series. It is so slick and well-made.

I just don't get how Diamonds are Forever can be so poorly directed.

So much weirdness that can only be blamed on the director:
- the dubbing
- editing
- deliberately unflattering shots of Connery - He looks great in some shots, almost like You Only Live Twice, but angles are almost made to make him look terrible.

Also a special note about the title song, Diamonds are Forever by the great Shirley Bassey, this is one of the series best songs - squandered by a poor title sequence and overall poor and confusing movie.

Worth a watch though simply for old school Vegas.

Yes I agree. and Jill St. John! Lots to see in this film.

Indeed. In her prime.

I think DAF was an ok movie up until they started to blow up things with a space lazer. Die Another Day did the "space lazer" stuff much more convincingly.

reply

haha I did not mind the space lazer, but the stupid commie on fire scenes. Come one.
