why did the woman not help Hall at the end ??

she runs away.

She thought he was contaminated. She did not want to get sick. Human instinct. Hope this late reply gets to you.

It's pretty certain that the woman who panicked was not considering the matter rationally. It's a believable response.

Indeed.

Are you kidding? The lab seemed not to be fully operational until the Wildfire was called. I got no impression that the facility had been routinely growing Anthrax 13 or Galloping Bubonic Plague. And the whole situation would have been known by everybody in the facility - No way a bunch of scientists and technicians weren't talking. They had to know if something got loose it would be Virus X or The Satan Bug. Then you start up a flashing lights "We are all going to die!" alert. Panic time.

Exactly.

But what would those drills include?

They'd include abandoning the contaminated, among other things. Anyone who worked in a high-level germ warfare lab would be trained in 200 different ways to ignore their natural human instincts and abandon anyone contaminated with nasty bugs to their fate, because then it'd be a case of one person dying vs everyone at the lab dying. Or everyone in the state, or the world.

Yeah, well, when we've all looked death in the face and done the right thing while the Grim Reaper was impatiently timing us with a stopwatch, we will have room to criticize how others handle it.

Silly discussion, really.
