I don't understand you people rate movies just 1 out of 10, If they hate the movie so much they shouldn’t even bother to rate it.

ok i read an article once which was explaining why some good movies were voted so poorly. Back when the batman franchise by cristopher nolan was made all the really hardcore fans wanted the movie to reach the top so they gave the batman movies perfect scores.That wasnt enough so they started voting all the other movies in the list poorly so the batman franchise could make it to the top, and they suceed. Thats also the reason why shawshank redemption is in the 1st place. The godfather used to be 1st but it was the first movie all the batman fans voted with 1.

Fans of other movies in top 10 vote with 1 other movie in top 10 so their favorite movie could get a better position.

I think it's to spite a film so that their favourite rises up the charts. You can see if Godfather got the same ratio as Shawshank it would probably be outright no 1. There's definitely a bias towards modern films (post 1970) and many films from 30's and 40's should be in the top positions.

Why would one care about that?

Really, there are three LOTR in the top 25! Three movies in which the best acting comes from the computer and not from the human actors! There are so many kids and teens rating which makes the ranking lose much of its importance.

Hell, "Cidade de Deus" is nº 13 and it is not even the best brazilian movie ever, almos all the brazilian critics and people with more than two neurons would put at least "O Pagador de Promessas" ahead.

Also remember people can have different approaches on how to judge and rate a movie. E.g. me: I gave 8 to "The Conjuring" and gave only 7 to "Seven Samurai".

Do I think "The Conjuring" is better than "Seven Samurai"? Definetly not! But I simply can't compare so different kinds of movie in terms of rating. I gave 8 to "The Conjuring" because IMO it is a 8/10 among the Horror Movies. And I gave 7 to "Seven Samurai" because IMHO it is 7/10 among the Japanese Samurai Movies.

Probably mentioned by others but I think people voting 1 are just trying to influence the overall score the film is getting.
No way any of the films listed there deserves a 1.

This movie is much better than Inception or the any of the Lord of The Rings series. If I made the top 25 list, it would look very different, but that's just me.

I always thought Seven Samurai was over rated
