George Segal: Bad performance

This is one of my all-time-favourite war movies, I absolutely adore this film.
But I have never seen George Segal delivering a worse performance than here. His acting is totally over the top and exagerated.

Does anybody share my opinion ?

There were scenes where he came off as wooden and self conscious, but I wouldn't call it an outright bad performance overall. His facial expressions when he resented something (mainly unpleasent orders) tended to be rather ridiculously overbaked though.

I never liked him in this role.
