King Arthur and King Alfred

Anyone interested in King Alfred and what his story led to should read 'King Arthur and King Alfred'. I dont have the writers name to hand but the book is available online. It shows how Alfred's life provided the basis for the Arthurian Legend. That parts amazing, though most of the book is about Alfred the Great and his life and the battle of Edington which comes at the end of this film.

Interesting, since Alfred was a king of Anglo-Saxon England, and Arthur was supposed to be a Brythonic Celt who had fought against the Saxons to keep them out of Britain in the first place.

It's funny how legends from one conquered culture evolve and are transformed into the conqueror's culture. The Greeks did with the Trojans and the the Romans did it with the Greeks, and the Romans were incorporated into various European cultures after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

Indeed.

That sounds like utter twaddle to me.
