The WORST Beatles songs...

The Beatles obviously have a TON of really good songs. But I'm interested in what people think are the worst Beatles songs. I'll start.

1. Good Morning Good Morning
2. Sun King
3. A Taste of Honey

reply

Awhh man, Piggies is awesome. I don't think George ever wrote anything I disliked.

Taste of Honey just makes me laugh at the beginning, but then yeah, its pretty awful.

I think its interesting that people do have such varying opinions on so many songs; I didn't think anyone could disagree with I want you (she's so heavy) or Helter Skelter, but I guess to each his own.

reply

I can't believe more people didn't mention Good Morning Good Morning, which sits in the middle of Sgt Pepper like a giant steaming turd! So bad, I think I only listened to it all the way through once. After that I hit the Next button every time I heard that irritating chicken noise... Piggies isn't George's best, and Michelle makes me laugh it's so goofy, the beat of it sounds like Row Row Row Your Boat. Revolution 9 doesn't qualify as a song; it's an unpalatable collection of creepy sound effects. Why is everyone hating on Ringo?

reply

I've just answered this in Paul's board... aaaanyway
Mines are revolution 9 and wild honey pie
AND I can't believe there are people who don't like drive my car and GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

John Lennon HIMSELF hated "Good Morning"...other then that, all who are dumping these Beatles songs have no EMOTIONAL connection to the band...so they can be objective. I wish I could be too, but i can't.

reply

Another one of his own songs John hated was "It's Only Love". He thought the lyrics were poor and the song itself wasn't one of his better efforts. I'm surprised to not see it mentioned yet. While I don't dislike the song, I think the guitar playing sounds rather strange.

reply

You just summed up your entire generation.

reply

In response to all the hating on Good Morning Good Morning, I'd have to say that, while I often find myself skipping the song when listening to Sgt. Pepper's, I've found that the version on Anthology Vol. 2, which doesn't have the brass band or the sound effects in it, is actually a lot better.

reply

How could you possibly not like old brown shoe!, its great, george's lyrics always are, that song has not only great and interesting lyrics but great guitars interpretations...รง

reply

[deleted]

what the hell is the deal with revolution number 9 anyway?!

reply

I like Rocky Raccoon and Old Brown Shoe. I thought that they were good but in my oppinion my least favorite Beatles song is Wild Hony Pie. It sounds really strange and isn't good at all.

Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb.-Spaceballs

reply

1) Birthday
2) Why don't we do it in the road?
3) Baby, you're a rich man

reply

George Martin said that the song was the result of Yoko Ono's growing influence on John Lennon. She was big on doing experimental kinds of music. Martin also said that he tried to keep the song off the White Album but was overruled.

reply

Yeah - you can tell he wrote 'For your sweet top lip I'm in a queue' with a not-straight face.

reply

I'm amazed no one has mentioned the steaming turd that is "What Goes On." It's every bit as bad as "Act Naturally."

There are NO worst Beatles songs! They were experimenting with everything they could get their hands on. So you you don't like it? I think that is a compliment, they have managed to push your boundary's beyond your comfort zone. Name a style they didn't try and (ok, maybe not to your taste) but execute brilliantly!

Having said that their films were all C*rap, but as maybe one of the only one's here to have ever seen them live (yes I am that old) I can tell you they were amazing!

The Beatles released about 13 albums, singles that didn't even appear in albums (Hey Jude, Rain, We Can Work It Out, etc.) and even an E.P. or two, in the same span of time it takes bands these days to record one or two albums so cut them some slack on a few tracks that maybe aren't as good as they're absolute BEST. If you don't like Flying or Blue Jay Way...well then YIPPEE for you...I personally love these odd tracks and I think the Beatles would be boring if they only stuck to doing pop records with predictable, vanilla songs. Leave them alone and start talking about truly crap bands or songs. THANK YOU!!!!

Worst songs by the Beatles...

Well, Revolution #9 is not a song, but a collection of sounds put together by Lennon. It takes Beatles recording to a new level. Ever since early days of bouncing tracks around to layer on more sounds, the Beatles had played with tapes... This was just another step. A great experiment, but, it really isn't a song, and it could be one of the most displeasing recordings by the Beatles, but I can't say it's the worst.

Look up my Number. This ditty was almost never released. The released song feels like a great little imprompto number. Great fun, not a serious tune, but not the worst.

What do I think is the worst? The original version of Get Back! In it's original concept, Get Back was a political attack on racism, but it doesn't play well, and it feels that Paul is actually racist. Thankfully, the original version was never officially released, and we only have reworked lyrics... as it is, Get Back is one of the better Beatle rockers, instead of the worst Beatle shocker.

reply

Amen. A good point well made!
It's not so easy to criticise the Fabs when you look at their complete output in the space of 8 years. Sure there were some tracks that weren't as good as their best, but when their best stuff still holds up today against the rubbish that frequents the charts, that must mean their below-par stuff was still pretty damn good.
I will concede on one point though. Revolution 9 was pointless avant-garde rubbish, a complete waste of space on the White Album. There were far better tracks recorded during the sessions that could have taken its place (Sour Milk Sea, Not Guilty, What's The New Mary Jane to name just three.)
As a band, if you listen to everything from Please Please Me right up until their last 'true' album, Abbey Road, you'll see a band that could diversify, progress and really break the mould. Unlike bands such as, oooh, Oasis, who churn out the same self-satisfied rubbish on every single album. Personally, when Oasis first appeared, I had a quick listen, dismissed them, and went back to the true Britpop kings, Blur and Suede!

The Long and Winding Road
With A Little Help From My Friends
All You Need Is Love

those three are probably my least favorite Beatles songs of all time

reply

5. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
4. A Taste Of Honey
3. Wild Honey Pie
2. Flying
1. Revolution 9

Woah you're way wrong on Good Morning Good Morning. I absolutely love that song.

1. Oh! Darling (Abbey Road)
2. Anna (Go to Him) (Please Please Me)
3. Flying (Magical Mystery Tour)
4. I Need You (Help!)
5. Mr. Moonlight (Beatles for Sale)
6. It Wont Be Long (With the Beatles)
7. Doctor Robert (Revolver)
8. Norwegian Wood (Rubber Soul)
9. Lovely Rita (Sgt. Peppers)
10. I Will (White Album)
11. I've Got a Feeling (Let it Be)
12. I'll Cry Instead (A Hard Days Night)

Well i picked these songs because they're too repetitive and dont have very good structure compared to their other hits.

[deleted]

I'd really have to disagree with you on Baby you're a rich man and Magical Mystery Tour. Other then that, i cant really remember much of these songs even though i have all the CD's. So i'm sure you're right.

Michelle is alright too. But not that great.

Mainly early beatles albums weren't too great. They had their hits and then nothing everything else was blah.

Good call on most of those.

Hey,

1. Alright, that's cool. Then that means you dont really hate the song.

2. I see what you mean. I like both of those songs. One thing i dont like about BYARM is that it takes forever to get into the title chorus.

I'm glad you didn't attack me as many others would have choose to probably do. I respect your opinion and see what you mean.

Hey,

I sort of dont like "Why dont we do it in the road?"

And i dont believe i'm heard "Can you tak me back."

I'll have to check those out.

reply

SIRTRUMP43, "Can You Take Me Back" is a short piece between "Cry Baby Cry" and "Revolution 9" on the White Album.

Wild Honey Pie. ASDJIOJNM!!!!! DSFZIOJIOFJMF!!!!!! DFJIFIKIAFOJM!!!!! DSJAKJFAJIOZSD!!!!! I LOOOVE YA HONAYPAH. That's basically the only lyrics.

I'm gonna get rained on for this, but a lot of White Album songs don't really do it for me. But holy crap, WHP sticks out the most for me.

i like baby youre a rich man. do you know that brian jones plays the oboe in that song? i named my daughter michelle and she played it when i danced with her at her wedding reception. picking the worst beatle song may be tougher than picking the best beatle song.

reply

I love Baby You're a Rich Man. Magical Mystery Tour is my favorite ablum by the beatles.

reply

i want to hold your hand

reply

P.S. I Love You is maybe their worst song.
I always thought "Yesterday" was kind of sappy.

Really? Are you seious, in your opinion those are the 3 worst Beatles songs? Have you even heard them? Compare the Beatles worse songs and they will in many cases be better than most bands best songs today.

The three that aren't great are probably from Yellow Submarine but I can't decide which.

-----

HELP!

reply

Well if they have to be from Yellow Submarine then how about these:

01 - All You Need is Love (it's crap, it really is just crap)
02 - Baby You're a Rich Man (none-song knocked-off B side. Great production though)
03 - When I'm 64 ("Sgt. Pepper's" has it's momments, but it also contains this AND Lovely Rita)

Or are you one of those twit's who endlessly claims that the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack is the worst Beatles LP?

You think so? Have you never listened to "Beatles For Sale", "Anthology Vol.1" or "Rubber Soul" (that last one isn't a bad LP, it's just boring and dated. Ditto "Let It Be")?
