Charlton Heston was a fine actor and a good person. Unfortunately, he's one of the most misunderstood and misjudged actors in film history, along with John Wayne. Those who dislike them as actors usually haven't actually seen them much, and those who dislike them as men have uncritically bought into myths about their character or ideology. In addition to Will Penny, two other of my favorite Heston performances are Steve Leach in "The Big Country", and Cardinal Richelieu in "The Three Musketeers" and "The Four Musketeers".
