the chocolate mousse

1) didn't guy notice she dumped 1/2 of it in her napkin? she's having trouble eating it...and then...all gone! 

2) how much drugs were in that thing?! if she actually ate all of it: would it have killed her? she only had a couple bites & it zonked her out big time.

She diverted his attention to the record player so I don't think he noticed. I'm sure he would have said something since he hounded her about criticizing it. I'm sure it would never have killed her since the whole plan was for her to give birth to Santan's spawn. I implied that it would have made her go unconscious and wipe out any memory of the consummation. Since she only ate part of it, she didn't get the whole effect of the drug and remembered parts of the rape and even said this wasn't a dream and it was really happening.

reply

right, she just had a bit of it & it really zonked her out...think all of it would have been fatal.

The devil wouldn't let her OD. I think if she ate it all she would have just been completely unconscious and not remembered getting raped by a hairy, scaly beast.

reply

She had more than a bit of it. She had several huge bites.

And wow that was such a shocking scene for the times. Movies were evolving at the time and since the rating system wasn't in place it was rated M for mature audiences. Of course it's mild compared to what was to come.

I was wondering how Rosemary got the drugged dessert and of course Guy was in on it so his was fine. No wonder Minnie didn't have to come in with her obnoxious way (much to Rosemary's relief) she was making a delivery.

reply

If it could have killed her it would have defeated the whole purpose of it which was to make her almost in a coma. Minnie states it is like she is dead. Minnie would not have dared have made something that would have killed her since the Devil would not have been too happy. So she could have eaten all of it and licked the dish with no problems.

Nope. She eats 4 bites in front of him.

While he's turning the record player over, she dumps the rest - 2.5 spoons of it - into her napkin.

She empties the napkin into the drain while she's soaking the dishes. He's watching the Pope on TV and doesn't see her do this.

Ro is responsible for the household chores including dishes AND laundry.

So even if Guy saw her napkin stained with mouse - which is highly unlikely - he would have no way of knowing how much mouse was in it.

Between the amount of mouse he sees her eat and all the booze she drinks during dinner, Guy has every reason to believe she's out for the count.

That's probably why he's so freaked out to see her awake/watching and (accurately, though he doesn't know it) tells Minnie that she can see what's going on.

I noticed that, too! Was thinking the mousse had been tainted with so much sleeping medication Rosemary would have succumbed to her death if she had eaten the entire serving! Minnie was certainly heavy-handed with the drugs, wasn't she!

reply

I wasn't sure if it was sleeping medication or some kind of 'tranquilizer'.

Minnie says to Guy at the ritual, when he voices concern: "If she ate the mouse, she can't hear nor see she's like dead."
It seemed to be some kind of "supernaturally-oriented" drug, it kept her docile yet (deliberately!!) awake.

reply

Hmmmm....might we detect the pungent aroma of tannis root in that mousse?

reply

Supernaturally oriented drug? There are a number of drugs that are very much real that can cause that. Just look up twilight anesthesia .

reply

The reason she was aware of what was going on during the ceremony is because she didn’t eat it all so was only partially drugged.

reply

And hers had the cherry on top!
