Harry...worst character

I'm still trying to figure out why the people saved Harry from the sharks instead of the doctor. When they finally got Harry on board, they welcomed him like a hero...Uhhh, who cares that you just shoved our only doctor overboard and murdered him? Who cares that you're a drunk? Who cares that you just drank the entire ration of booze that was meant for all of us?
What does it take to get someone mad at Harry?

reply

Well, the doctor was implied to have murdered the mother of his daughter. He also prevented her from marrying so that he could maintain control over the money that was left to her. And then there was the accident which came about while he was practicing without a license.

What Harry did was wrong, and I wouldn't have blamed them too much if they had been tempted to throw him overboard, but the doctor was a creep and the incident did lead Harry to change his ways.

reply

They should have saved the doctor instead of Harry. Bad as Harry was, I think that the doctor's daughter was the worst character. How can anyone hate their father so much? She even congratulated Harry on getting rid of her father for her.

reply

It was clearly explained in the film that the Doctor was a greedy incompetent who had killed at least one patient and was responsible (at best indirectly) for the death of his own wife.

His daughter had been badly treated by him, and was better off without him.

The important part is that the film is full of unlikable people. lol.

Every character in this movie has warts. The first mate is the only person with any virtue. The point of the scene in the bar area where the first mate tries to convince the passengers to turn around, to avoid the hurricane, is to show that the passengers are all running from the law in some way. If not running from the law, running from 'something', some of it is mysterious.

Perhaps some of the crew are innocent, just workers. They form a mutiny and evacuate the ship, but they aren't the main characters.

The chief in the Engine Room is portrayed in an entirely positive light, not to mention those under the chief aren't portrayed negatively. The only reason they mutinied is because of the glaring danger of the ship exploding due to the compromised illegal cargo, which the vessel was secretly carrying due to the selfish captain.
