An unusual title considering the circumstances
The monsters actually save humanity from the aliens.
shareThe monsters actually save humanity from the aliens.
shareLike many kaiju films with titles more complex than 'Monster 1 vs. Monster 2,' the title went through several permutations when the film was released outside of Japan. Check the 'also known as' information link on the main imdb page for this movie, and you'll find it had seven different titles in English, alone. Some of the non-English titles even reference King Kong.
Sometimes these title changes are accidental or 'lost in translation,' and sometimes the foreign distributors would change the title because the literal translation wasn't 'punchy' enough, or they would re-write it to something they thought would attract more attention in their own countries.
I think the most infamous re-translation was a Godzilla film (can't recall just which one, at the moment) which was re-titled in Germany to 'Frankenstein vs. the Devil Monster.'

Ending Spoiler....Yes, and it leaves no explanation as to how the monsters got back on Monster Land. Was it of their own choice or by force as appears to be the case in the beginning. Since they did save humanity, was still any of the safeguards still in place so they can't leave the island or were they trusted now?
shareI think the monsters and humans lived happily side by side after this
shareThen why still have the safeguards against them escaping?
shareI tried reading the novel to get more information but it was in Japanese so I couldn't understand it.
shareI didn't know there was a novel the movie was based on. My comments have only been about the movie.
shareA classic like this movie is sure to have a novel. I just wished I could read Japanese
shareThe monsters went back to Monsterland of their own volition. There are no "safeguards" there now. The Fire Dragon destroyed the base on Monsterland and all of mankind's equipment that was there. The whole point of the ending is that man and monster are now at peace with one another now that man has left the monsters to their own devices. It's not about "trust" or some such. It's just that's where the monsters live and man are leaving them alone now.
