shareIt was certainly a connection. "Little Annie Fanny" is a cultural artifact that I suppose couldn't survive today. (I don't know; Playboy still exists in a form with no cultural influence anymore -- do they still run that comic?)
Indeed, Little Annie Fanny would wander into sexual situations -- and often submit, a bit surprised at first, but then quite enjoyably -- to whatever some guy would want to do with her(to her.) A different era, but a very accessible fantasy for men(and evidently, for some women -- we must get "real" on this.)
Candy -- from a popular "dirty book" of the 60's -- plays pretty much the same way. As did Barbarella, which had a fairly major and progressive star, even then(Jane Fonda) taking the Annie Fanny part.
Wikipedia says the comic ended in 1988, but in 2000 Playboy tv planned a CGI cartoon that was never made.
You're right about "Barbarella" being very similar, I hadn't made that connection but I should have.
It's fascinating how big name stars like Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, and Ringo Star are in "Candy." A movie like this would never happen today with famous actors.

Wow, it died all the way back in 1988. Well, even for a men's magazine , it was pretty "rape-y" as the word is used nowadays. Certainly a sexual fantasy for us younger lads who were sneaking peeks into our fathers' hidden Playboy copies -- the innocent, willing and compliant young lady.

And again...with Jane Fonda in the role. Jane seemed to change her persona to fit her husband. The husband that time was the film's director, Roger Vadim, a Handsome Frenchman who specialized in "sexpot" movies(Brigitte Bardot starred in one.) When Fonda moved on to Ugly Activist Tom Hayden, she changed her image.

The late 60's WERE a revolutionary time on movie screens, and those guys were part of it. Its Walter Matthau's presence that most amuses me. Matthau and the idea of a "sex film" should be miles apart. He avoids the issue by mainly doing a "mini-Patton" military comedy routine and restricting his sexual activity to watching.
