Why did they come back to kansas??

Did I miss something?? What kind of morons go back to the state in which they committed a heinous crime AFTER they got away scot-free and fled to Mexico? They could have gotten away with it, no problem! Who goes back to the States?? Who goes back to Kansas?! What the hell were they thinking???

p.s. they murdered that poor family for... $43? unbelievable.

They were stupid, and wanted to come home. You hit it on the head when you said they were morons. You did not miss it. Have you seen Infamous and Capote? And have you seen the re-make with Eric Roberts? All stunning in their own way. I recommend them all highly.

I don't read anymore, but I did read Truman Capote's book back in '75 or so....I couldn't sleep for weeks.

I saw Capote. I did not love the film. I think PSH is probably the best actor of our time, but I really didn't like this particular performance. Weird, isn't it? I love Meryl and Phil, yet I don't appreciate what is considered to be their best performances. To each his own I guess.

Former hater? haha, okay. Don't judge a book by its cover, I guess.

You gotta see Infamous, Skid. It was gentler and more gut-wrenching than PSH's performance.

I agree, PSH is not a good match for the role of Capote. Most obviously, PSH is too tall, and the accent seems forced and affected.

>>I think PSH is probably the best actor of our time, but I really didn't like this particular performance<<

I agree 100%. You are dead on the money, Skid...in the raw talent category, Phillip Seymore Hoffman is probably in the top 20 of all living (and working) actors today, but this wasn't his vehicle. I could name 10 movies he was better in.

OMG....YOU ARE ALL CRAZY if you think that PSH was NOT stellar in his performance of Capote. It is BY FAR the best portrayal of all the films you've mentioned, including Infamous.

You people clearly know nothing about acting.

"and the accent seems forced and affected."

That's how Capote's speech and mannerisms were. He was a caricature of himself, and he made no effort to conceal it.

About them coming back to Kansas, they hitched a ride in the California desert all the way to Iowa, stole a car there in a barn, then almost got back to Kansas writing hot checks, a suspicious man at a tire store reported them for the hot checks, the agents found out, a police car dispatched to the toll booth, then Perry spots it and makes Dick turn the car around to escape, they end up in Vegas to pick up their things, then caught.

reply

Now you know why they call it dope.

reply

It wasn’t because they were idiots. At Mexico, they fell into hard times, with a lack of money. Dick clearly states this detail when Perry comes to him with the idea of a fishing boat. They went back to the United States because they know the United States and felt that they could survive there better than they could survive in Mexico.

FYI - coming back Kansas didn’t get them busted. They got busted in Las Vegas for driving a stolen car.

And lastly - they murdered the family because they thought, incorrectly, that the family had a safe filled with money. The family had just $43, but they entered the house with the idea that the family had more. They killed the family in the end because they couldn’t leave witnesses.
