Another OVERRATED film

Well, after Godfather and Godfather II I am no longer surprised to see mediocre films at the top of the IMDb ratings. This film is below average. Just like The Godfather II, the acting is more than decent but that is all there is to it. The story is way too simple and takes too long to develop -3 hours!!! C'mon, a good editor could have transformed this into a good 1 1/2 hour flick.

Anyways, for those of you who appreciate filmaking as what it is REALLY supposed to be: ENTERTAINMENT, I recommend to avoid this film at all costs or get ready to waste three hours of your life that you will never get back.

What's overrated is starting topics saying "OVERRATED" and expecting admiration, laughs, attention... It's been tried by many others, much smarter than you. Ask them, it doesn't work.

Now take off your mom's tights, she wants them back.

Never be complete.

Stick to movies like Muppets in Space or any Michael Bay movies.

Adults are talking here.

A whole 1 1/2 hours!!! Why not just edit it down into a ten minute Saturday Morning Cartoon. That seems like the medium that you are used to.

I've watched this film serveral times and I'll go back and watch it again. Same goes for The Godfather I & II. They were definitely NOT a waste of my time and shouldn't be for anyone else who enjoys good quality films.

The acting is great, Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef all do outstanding performances, the dialogue flows very naturally and their performances all seem to improve the more and more I watch the film.

Director Sergio Leone's direction was incredible and the cinematography fit the dry desolate old west atmosphere.

I cant imagine anything being cut from this film also. While it may seem too long or dragged on by people like the OP, the film's pace in my opinion is perfect and takes it's time to develop the characters as well as the story too.

A Classic film. I guess you're more suited for Michael Bay's Transformer films.

I agree that the OP is simply trolling, but as I'm watching this for the first time, right now, the defenders of it's position on the Top Movies isn't quite there for me yet. I'm definitely digging the direction that this is going, but so far, Play Misty for Me is still my favorite CE flick. I own almost 700 movies and this, so far, is the 1966 version of what you guys keep lambasting others for liking. Especially the people that have been rude, regarding Tarantino's movies. The tough characters, the over-the-top violence that isn't something that can happen in our physics, the tender, yet macho dialogue, the attention paid to emotion, the bonding bounty hunter thing. And I get it. Leone did it first. But in fiction, there are only some many different types of antagonist and protagonist pairings, available.

Granted, this appears to be way ahead of it's time. But it's a not exactly the polar opposite of Transformers. In fact, it seems like the opposite of pretentious Fredrico Fellini films or sexed-up, action exploitation flicks that started to emerge around the mid-60's ala Roger Corman.

I can see how so many films and directors have given homage to this movie though. Everyone from QT to the character, El Guapo, in The Three Amigos. So far, I couldn't rank it on a Western best of... as I have only seen a handful of them, but as I'm not done with it, I would firmly place it in the top 30 of 250. I'm sure my opinion may change, as opinions should alway be static, not part of a vacuum. I can also see how, with the evolution of film, one might pass this up for, say, Tombstone or walk the by The Godfather for Goodfellas. Please understand that it all still is a matter of preference.

Sorry if I got you all angry. I tend to like genres and directors and writers or original authors. Christ, I love Phillip K. Dick, but even though the critics herald Blade Runner as his best story and adaptation, you can give me The Adjustment Bureau, in regards to story and film companion pretty much every day of the week.

Good day, folks, and I'm sure I'll hear from you all soon, I only got about 75 minutes left on this and would be happy to LOVE this movie like you all, but 50 years later, a lot of its characters seem to be over the top, not unlike a lot of it's Chinese counterparts.

There is NO such thing as magic and love is dead.

Obviously this op is someone unschooled in film to post something so preposterous. The only thing I'd like to add to BloodyCinemaReel's post is two things: 1/ the music by Ennio Morricone is beyong reproach and unduplocateable (a word?); 2/ my kids (who are 23 and 24) and my hubby who's 51 all love & adore TG, TB, TU AND the first Transformers movie. (I fell asleep in the latter.) So let's not throw insults.

Can't we like the great and the popcorn bad stuff?

There is one in every movie forums like this "Overrated film". Just ignore it.

I can not believe what I am hearing The Good The Bad And The Ugly and The Godfather 1-2 are overrated films. We are talking about films that are considered the best films ever made. And also I must say The Godfather is not my type of film but is sheer brilliance, it has everything, even the 3rd was not bad but not quite in the same league as the 1-2. All I can say is these films were made 40 or so years ago and they are still widely regarded. Reason being quite simply the minority of people who know there films love them. I have 5000 DVDS and from time to time put any classic film on. So if you see the brilliance every time you put it on then you know they are great films!!!!

In Indian films I can show atleast 10 films from each language(Hindi, Tamil, Telugu) that are copied from Godfather. Still they keep on making movies based on Godfather.
Every western kind of movie (we call here as cowboy movies) are copied from The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Fistfull Of Dollars and For a few more Dollars. The background score in The Good The Bad and The Ugly is like trademark for western movies. It's definitely not a overrated movie.
