Another OVERRATED film

Well, after Godfather and Godfather II I am no longer surprised to see mediocre films at the top of the IMDb ratings. This film is below average. Just like The Godfather II, the acting is more than decent but that is all there is to it. The story is way too simple and takes too long to develop -3 hours!!! C'mon, a good editor could have transformed this into a good 1 1/2 hour flick.

Anyways, for those of you who appreciate filmaking as what it is REALLY supposed to be: ENTERTAINMENT, I recommend to avoid this film at all costs or get ready to waste three hours of your life that you will never get back.

The fact that you don't find either this or The Godfather entertaining makes your opinions irrelevant.

What, exactly, constitutes an "average" film? What is the master rubric used to determine where films fall on a percentile scale?

If I still find this below-average film entertaining after multiple viewings, does that make me a below-average film viewer? Does that still qualify me to view above-average films?

reply

If you find the Godfather films and this average then god knows what standard of film you go for......Twighlight maybe? These are Masterpieces and i feel pity for you in that you can't enjoy them like most of us do

Most of these posters are just trolling, like the OP who is posting similar comments about every highly ranked movie. Let's face it this isn't the place to have an intelligent discussion about film, it's a message board, use at your own risk.

The Godfather films are just popcorn flicks, very high quality popcorn flicks but popcorn flicks nonetheless and they espouse style above substance. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on the other hand is style AND substance.

By dissing this and the first two Godfather's you have essentially insulted three of my all time favourites. Perhaps you aren't mature enough to have an appreciation for these films yet? Not trying to be condescending but these films grew on me with age. Godfather I, II and Good, Bad, Ugly are films that really reward repeat viewings.

Out of all the films on the Top 250 list, you pick on this one (one of the more deserving)? Why not pick on 'The Dark Knight', a great popcorn flick, a good film, but still just a shallow popcorn film at heart?

This film is entertaining but also deep and moving as it progresses and you see the horror of war; it is a very brave film. It sold itself into the western genre where people mostly expect to have fun and gave them a film which, yes, had fun in it but also a lot of challenging and sad themes. This is clearly one of the best westerns ever made and one of the most daring.

SImple. The Dark Knight -though a bit overrated- is at least entertaining!

Yeah it's entertaining....to children..."oooh there goes Batman & Robin, kBoom, Pow...yipeee top movie there". :)

Funny thing is, most of us thought like the OP does when we were kids, give him time to grow up, I'm sure he'll LOL at his opinions in the future.

'The Godfather' was mediocre? I just plain don't value your opinion. Don't try to tell me what movies to watch because I'm not paying attention!
