Anyway I'm only half way through with the book but it is excellent! Miranda seems like more of a snob in the book than in the movie but maybe that's just because we get to hear her thoughts.

If you really do believe what you're saying, you may be as disturbed as 'Franklin'. People like that, and there are plenty of them, come in all varieties. As in all things we should judge people by their character, not their looks.

shareTerence Stamp's character reminded me of Anthony Perkins' character in Psycho. Very slight builds, delicate in manner, yet also good-looking enough to look like they could've led normal lives. The typical 320lb uncouth slob & outcast would be too easy, and something of a cinematic cliche. With these interesting looking actors, we begin to wonder "What went wrong in their lives? How did they go astray?" That actually makes us fixate more intently for morsels of clues and backstory.
It's not the one that's "wholly not there" that's always interesting. It's the one that "almost there, but isn't."
But to answer the OP's question. No - any type of kidnapping would be awful. Even if it were like Terence Stamp's situation where you got books, tea, your own soft bed and meals...any human being intentionally kidnapping you (hurting you emotionally and separating you from loved ones) must be up to even worse schemes later on. They're not right in the noggin to begin with. Playing Beethoven for me and making French toast every morning will not sweeten the deal. We're still dealing with crazy.
