Apple TV

Did they get their hands on this one as well?
If so, then another Holiday tradition is lost to the general public.

Apparently so, yes:

My understanding is that they have exclusive rights to the whole catalog now.

What nonsense! These specials have been airing on network TV for over 50 years! Have a century!

I believe I saw a headline that said they made The Great Pumpkin available for free for two days. But even if they continue to do that for all the others, it still kills the actual tradition of watching these live with the rest of the world on regular television.

You can't but what's not for sale. In most likeliness this is going to happen to just about all of these seasonal shows you may be into. Broadcast TV is a dinosaur. They did nothing but increase the percentage of commercial time as streaming services started to eat into their customer base and this is the end result.

I understand people not being happy about it but the way, the kind and the amount of media people are going to consume has changed recently and this trend will only increase for at least the next few years and the old broadcast scheme is going to be one of the things that will be ruined in its wake.
