For those questioning filming location...

As I've read, the producers wanted to film on location, but it wasn't possible due to the nature of the film and the racial climate of the time in the South.

I watched the making of and it shows Monroeville became modernized under the WPA, WW II and other government works. It was stuck in period of time before changes came to change that way of life forever. Even the town in California that the homes were modeled after was scheduled to be razed.

Very interesting. Where did you find the making of it? I'd like to see that.

This is one of my favourite films of all time.

I found the video on YouTube, or one where Mary Badham (Scout) talks about the filming of To Kill A Mockingbird, including about the Californian town being scheduled to be razed after it was shot.

If anyone else is interested, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RijbFbpSqJo

Funny how Mary is still very recognizable as Scout in this video, 50 or so years later.
