Peter Lore makes this from ok to excellent

Just cuaght this on srceam network last night for the first time in years. Peter Lore really makes this more than worth while. The Black Cat segment is really classic. The whole time Lore is on screen I am compelled to watch. Roger Corman is known for his Poe adaptations and that they have hummor and elements of horror in them. I like that, they work really well. I'll have to track this one down if for nothing more than for the Black Cat segment.

Well if u have TCM there is a film festival of Vincent/Peter/Basal/Boris POE films this weekend.

THE RAVEN has a very young Jack Nicholson as Peter's son

man, i wish i still got tcm, everytime i hear it mentioned i recall what a great station it is, classic movies around the clock, i got tnt then tcm nordic about my whole life, then suddenly it shut down in my part of the world. i hesitated watching the second segment of this fearing it might include animal cruelty, well, just as the classic movie starring boris karloff and bela lugosi with the same title, no such thing, in fact, spoiler, the cat turns out to be the hero and solves the mystery. peter lorre seemed to be in quite many of these sort of horror flicks, some of them spoofs with similar titles as horror classics, this, just as the first segment, had paintings to then blend out with the real shooting, at first i couldn't believe that was someone he (the drunkard) lived with and expected her to be the maid or daughter or something, what a doll, this was much lighter than the first segment, and causes most buzz on this board, and it was such a treat that price also starred in this segment, again in a much lighter role as a professional wine tasting snob battling it out with the drunkard role of lorre, spoiler, caught completely off guard by his talent, great settings and neat camera work. it would have worked out for everyone involved at the end if the bartender wouldn't have hinted what was going on.

eerie streets eyes like empty shells,
with lost souls in them,
forgot were sisters and brothers,
a cross in our flag they dont even know it,
in this bleak place,
a spot on earth without grace,
drifting out in the cold,
in the north wind like a maverick alone.
