This was the first art house film?

Or so I've heard.

Generally I like films of that type, but this one's not really for me. Well, I did enjoy the card game.

But the idea of leaving things up to the viewer's interpretation is not my game.

Intolerance (1916) is sometimes credited as the first art film but I’m sure there were earlier examples. Certainly, it wasn’t Last Year at Marienbad _ Resnais himself had given us Hiroshima mon amour a few years earlier.

For the record I wasn’t a big fan of Marienbad, either, and agree that the game was the most enjoyable part. I love Hiroshima, though.
