Favorite version?

I've seen the 1960 and the 90s version and of course i prefer the original, i was wondering what other peoples opinions were on it.

I prefer the remake. I think Carpenter did a good job in trying to develop the kids' characters more compared with the original. Giving David emotions and leaving him divided between his mother and the other children made for a more involving storyline. Mara also made a better leader compared to David of the original; she was creepier and more determined to ensure the children survived, whatever the cost to everyone else.

I prefer the 60 version. The black and white made it creepier and the acting was much better.

I prefer the original also. The black and white cinematography adds to the spookiness, and these kids were scary. The remake had color and vivid detail of their power. But this version is better because we were the special effects. Instead of being shown a man on fire, we imaged it. I also think the kids were creepier in this version.

Literally the only thing I remember about the remake is how goofy the children looked compared to the ones in the original. In the '60's version, there's something genuinely unsettling about their appearance.

:edit:
I just re-watched it out of curiosity. It really is vastly inferior to the original with a couple of notable exceptions, like the character of "David" being an outcast in the remake because of his empathy.

I actually enjoy both versions, but slightly prefer the 1960 version.
