what a great tree house

did anyone have monster envy of that house as a kid?

reply

hell yeah i did, i remember when i saw this when i was like eight. It's a crazy tree house.

reply

After watching that as a kid, I always wanted to move to a faraway island and build one just like it. It really was awesome!!

Ever been to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and visited the replica? I believe its in either Frontierland or...what's the other one called, Adventureland? Anyways, it's pretty neat.

reply

Yeah, the coolest thing I thought as a kid was their whole water system thing. And the tortise shell sink. Then when I went to the Disney World one, no tortise shell sink. As a kid I couldn't believe they forgot that:)

I was heartbroken when they turned the Swiss Family Robinson tree house at Disneyland into the Tarzan thing. Little did I know it would be the start of many sad changes at D-land.

What about the treehouse at Disney World in Florida? Has that been changed into a Tarzan exhibit as well? I went to Disneyland Paris in May 2006 and they still had a Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. I hope it never changes.

I've never been to Disney World so I don't know if it has changed.

I was there just a few weeks ago and they haven't changed it yet! That's one of my favorite "rides"

I liked the treehouse at Disney World. I am not sure if it changed, when I was there last in 2005, it was still the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. I think that Walt Disney would roll over in his grave if he saw how they are messing up his park. They screwed up the Enchanted Tiki Birds, EPCOT and everything else. Long live the OLD park.

I'm grown up and a homeowner, and I'm STILL jealous I don't have such a great house-worthy tree in my backyard!

reply

I thought the tortoise sink was kinda cruel, I mean they would have had to kill a tortoise to get it unless they just stumbled upon one but since they live hundreds of years I reckon thats kinda doubtful.

But eya the rest of the tree house is awesome. Actually the star-light roof in the pent house suite they built at the top is a bit rubbish don't think I would have bothered with that.

reply

I assume they just found an old tortoise shell in the jungle or on the beach. They may live for a hundred or two years, but there's been generations of them living there for thousands of years, so of course there'd be a few old shells here and there.

And yes, I was OBSESSED with treehouses as a kid because of this movie(and Calvin and Hobbes). I still dream of building one like the one in this movie on a fabulous property someday.

Take my advice. Watch "Stella". It's hysterical. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443409/

I always enjoyed the building and living in the treehouse the most. It is the highlight of the movie for me. I get bored at all the animal scenes and especially Fritz' and Ernst voyage in the outrigger and the trek back home.

I also thought that there were far too many salvagable items on the ship that they should have brought ashore before they blew it up.

Considering that they talked about the possibility that they might be on the island a LONG time, they never seemed to consider the fact that they would need more space, more living quarters as the years went by...especially in light of the fact that a female was found....which meant breeding....

It also bothered me that great time and trouble was mad to bring the livestock to shore....pigs, fowl, etc. , but never heard from again. No building of pens, or a corral....no mention of eating eggs....ham...etc..

This has always bothered me.

I used to love the original Robinson tree house replica at Disneyland in California. I especially liked the room with the organ, with the sound of Mother Robinson playing it. The last time I was there, in 2011, they had remodeled it as Tarzan's tree house. Extremely disappointing. By now, it's probably something to do with Star Wars.

I remember the Disneyworld Florida treehouse from when I was a kid - loved it. Apparently that one is still there. A shame they converted the California house.

reply

Oh yes. That island and that treehouse looked like a children's wonderland to me. Man, I loved this movie as a kid.
