Just realized that On Thursday We Leave For Home...

was set in 2021. My favorite Season 4 episode.

Oh wow...I'd forgotten that. That's neat!

Interestingly, here's what Serling himself said about "On Thursday We Leave For Home" - and the bulk of Season 4:
"Our shows this season were too padded, " Serling concluded at the end of the run. "The bulk of our stories lacked the excitement and punch of the shorter dramas we intended when we started five years ago and kept to for a while . If you ask me, I think we had only one really effective show this season, 'On Thursday We Leave for Home . '... Yes , I wrote it
myself, but I overwrote it. I think the story was good despite what I did to it. "

That's a great episode from Season 4, which I generally like (some clinkers, but every season had them). I think I like Printer's Devil a bit better, but two of the best episodes from season four.

I agree with Serling, although "The Parallel" is my personal fave. The rest of the hour-long shows are out and out dogs.

reply

I guess we're all different. The Parallel is one I skip from season 4. Good the first time but not repeatable to me.

reply

"Miniature" is a gem, great performance from young Robert Duvall.

reply

Disagree. It's totally predictable and the story wears thin at a half hour.

reply

All a matter of taste, of course. "Miniature" is a tender, poignant, humane story, a portrait of loneliness & alienation, something that The Twilight Zone excelled in, something dear to Rod Serling's heart.

reply

What was dearer to Serling's heart was the half-hour format.

just watched this again tonight. whitmore was wonderful.

I couldn't help but notice that all the 'pilgrims' were white...

I also just that Captain William Benteen was based on Captain Frederick Benteen of Custer's Last Stand fame. A big fish in a small pond type.
