Mid Century modern furniture.

One of the things I have always liked about this show is the furnishing. The simplicity of the mid century modern design of the furniture is comforting to me, some of it is also somewhat eclectic which I like..

Same here! I always love the outfits. Suits, trench coats, fedoras, dress shoes, etc.., I miss being a T.A. for a Film Class that I T.A. for when we screened Film Noir or Science Fiction. I would select two TZ episodes for the final extra credit screening. The students would always compliment costumes and set designs. They would get into the episodes, it shows you that these younger people are still captivated by these stories and how the TZ still has longevity.

i liked the clothing of that era as well, I really liked the black dress that lady wore in the stopover at a quiet town episode

That is a beautiful dress! I like the black suit that the meal wears. Can never go wrong with the classic outfits.

I love the furnitures/houses in Third from the Sun and the hard close up on the decanter in A Stop at Willoughby.

You know it’s interesting, but the “mid-century look” actually carried through to the middle 80s and just beyond I’d say. My “formal wear” in those days was a 3 piece navy blue pinstripe suit, light-colored short sleeved shirt and dark tie. My overcoat was a London Fog, with a belt. “Proper dress” can actually be a wonderful ice-breaker. On the first day of a class I walked in, draped my suit jacket over the back of a chair and sat down. A young lady sitting to my left glanced over, did a sort of double take and smiled. “Well look at you,” she said. “Something tells me there’s a story there.” We ended up the best of friends for most of a year – at least in part because my attire got her attention before I even said 5 words.

Whereas she started dating the scruffy guy at the back of the class with the leather jacket and 3-day stubble who ignored her... AmIright?

reply

Nope... They don't make shows like that anymore! LoL

I assumed it happened in the '80s, though. I remember those kinds of outcomes occurring as a fact of reality back then.

reply

Oh sure. It just goes to show I think that everything old really can be new again.

My one regret about Arizona living is that it's not possible to wear an overcoat or vest 10 months of the year. Even a normal suit jacket is miserable in the summer.

reply

I’m sorry to hear that. I know how you feel, however, I’m lucky that I can wear a suit or overcoat here during the fall/winter season, in Cali. Sure, it can get warm, but it has its moments.

You in NorCal?

reply

Yes, Northern Cali. It was actually nice today. Windy and chilly, but sunny. That’s my favorite weather.

reply

I've always enjoyed the fashion as well. Much more tasteful/classic in my opinion.

I like Mid Century or "Mid Century Modern" architecture also.

reply

Oh yes, definitely.

The decor in my house is mid-twentieth century. Very plain, yet, decorative with lots of wood.
