Will I like this?

Having just watched The Magnificent Seven (1960), I am in the mood for another western. The only thing I know about this one is the theme music which is great. But the plot seems odd. A sea captain meets some rancher’s daughter and moves to Montana? That seems weird. Then I see the bad guy is played by that snowman from Rudolph, so not sure I can get passed that with thinking of “Silver and Gold” all the time. Then I am going to have to pay to see it because I don’t subscribe to TCM. I don’t know what to do.

this is a very good western. it is long. it has great characters and covers all the elements of the old west except indians.

"The Big Country" is longer and more slowly paced than "The Magnificent Seven", and has less action. But it's great in its own way, if you enjoy character development and relationships. The cinematography is spectacular, and the music score by Jerome Moross is every bit as good, if not better.
